The Art, Ecology, Community: Felixstowe Meet-Ups are back, and we have a great line-up of speakers for you to get inspired by!

On the 12th September, we have a fantastic opportunity for residents, visitors and anyone who knows and loves Felixstowe to join us for an afternoon of conversation and creative sharing. 💚

Everyone is invited to share their passions and knowledge as part of a fun, informal gathering. Bring a unique object, sound, poem or image that you find special or interesting and meet others who share your passion for Felixstowe, its creativity and its creatures. 🦀🪽

To inspire conversations for our meet-up we are joined by three incredible speakers from the region who will be bringing their expertise in artistic practices, conservation and climate research to inspire conversations. 🌿✊

✨Unlocked Creative Michelle Brace will explore how sit spots build wellbeing and nature connection. She shares how human tools - barometers, clocks, Fitbits - can help us tune into the ways other species sense the world and deepen our awareness of both nature and ourselves.

🌳Marley Karazimba Marley Karazimba presents the work of his 3-acre Community Supported Agriculture project Bantu Farm. Deep diving into the organisation’s origins, goals and current activities, Marley will explain the importance of producing crops locally, regeneratively and seasonally for the future of agriculture in Suffolk.

🪏 Stan Willey details his plans for a Felixstowe Permaculture Garden Society, a project seeking funding for 2027 with the goal of modelling a healthy, sustainable ecosystem through permaculture gardening in which crop and culture is grown side-by-side.

We have been so excited to bring Lily's work to Felixstowe and were delighted to share in the celebrations with her, her family and Felixstowe residents last week! 💚

The work, ReWilding The Ruins, is a collection of illustrations by Lily Hammond commissioned by Furtherfield, featuring the 7 mentor species of Felixstowe accompanied by 5 recognisable ruins from the town. The ruins, once abandoned and neglected appear on the artwork as bursting to life with colour and wildness, a true celebration of nature's strength, joy and beauty ✨

In May we hosted the second of our Online: Onlife - Artist Conversations 💚 Here is a wee recap!💡

Artists Clareese Hill Clareese Hill and Kit Braybrook joined us online to explore eco-social change across digital and local worlds, asking how we can spark deeper nature connection in both spaces. 📱🌳

The conversations and presentations explored how algorithms, platforms, migration, and digital cultures influence how we understand and navigate our surroundings, how we relate to each other, including other species and ecologies.

📊🫶Clareese Hill is a practice-based researcher exploring the validity of the word “identity” from her perspective as an Afro-Caribbean American woman through collaborating with emerging technology and meditative praxis. Inspired by practices of enslaved women hiding grains of rice in their hair, and the ability of rice to grow somewhere new, even after a period of dormancy, Clareese’s presentation proposed the idea of data as a grain of rice - and rice, in turn, as a mode of agricultural resistance.

🌏💻Kit Braybrook is a postdigital anthropologist-designer working across Europe and Canada. They are a Professor of Transversal Design at HGK FHNW Basel, where they lead an international MA programme growing community infrastructures for worlds in transition. Kit delivered a screen-based performance about feral hacking, which they define as ‘the playful (mis)use and (re)making of systems - which grow beyond human design,’ asking how can such practices intentionally (and unintentionally) bring about systems chaos? And how could this help us?

🎉 A New Public artwork from Furtherfield for Felixstowe 🎉

We're delighted to unveil Rewilding The Ruins, a stunning new public artwork by Ipswich-based artist Lily Hammond, across two billboards on Manning Road!

✨ Join us THURSDAY 30th JULY (tomorrow evening) at 6pm for drinks, celebration, and a first look at this vision of our town rewilded. Other life forms take back forgotten places - abandoned Felixstowe sites burst back to life with foxes, butterflies, seals, and brambles creeping through the cracks.

This artwork was shaped by Felixstowe voices and visions - through community conversations about youth leadership, Earth crisis, and coming together across generations. A huge thank you to local business owner Mr Ottley of Home From Home, Ipswich, for donating the billboard space! 🙌
