🌍 What does the climate and nature emergency mean for our communities and our future?

On Tuesday 3 November, Furtherfield and the Greenprint Forum are hosting a community screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing in Felixstowe.

The film offers a clear and accessible look at the risks facing the UK and, importantly, the positive and practical responses available to us.

We’re bringing people together to watch, reflect and think collectively about what the climate and nature emergency means for our lives, our communities and the futures we want to create.

Get ready to enter Creature Mode! Discover what Felixstowe feels and looks like from the perspective of its creature inhabitants this Saturday at Felixstowe Library! 🦀

Have you booked your place for the Creature Mode! Making Sessions on Saturday? Get involved in the Suffolk Wildlife Trust Festival of Nature with this exciting, hand-on making event by Furtherfield. ✨🌳

During the afternoon, we’ll team up with local artists to make our own connection kits. You’ll figure out which animal or creature you’re most like - then promise to help take care of it in your own creative way. You might even end up moving, listening, or “speaking” like that creature.💃🕺

We will be joined by the wonderful artist Michelle Brace Unlocked Creative who unlocks creative super powers through deep looking and listening, bringing about a greater sense of connection with ourselves, each other and the wider web of life. 🕸️

Did you join us for the Art, Community, Ecology: Felixstowe Meet-Up in September? Here’s some of the highlights from the day in case you missed out!✨

Michelle Brace Unlocked Creative shared her fascinating creative practice including her use of close-looking, sensing equipment and ‘sit-spots’ to better connect with the natural world surrounding us 🫶

Marley Karazimba Marley Karazimba gave us an inspiring talk about the incredible work he has achieved at Bantu Farm, showing how 3 years of permaculture practice has built community, biodiversity and food sovereignty in Bentley. 🪏🌳

Stan Willey from the Furtherfield youth co-production team gave us a brilliant introduction to his plans for a Felixstowe Permaculture Garden Society - encouraging us all to think about kinder systems for growing culture and crop side by side in our town 🤝

Thank you so much to everybody who came along for sharing your plants, poetry, paintings, multi-form artworks, stories, and impressive creativity and for your generous connection to our town’s diverse and beautiful ecological network!

The Art, Ecology, Community: Felixstowe Meet-Ups are back, and we have a great line-up of speakers for you to get inspired by!

On the 12th September, we have a fantastic opportunity for residents, visitors and anyone who knows and loves Felixstowe to join us for an afternoon of conversation and creative sharing. 💚

Everyone is invited to share their passions and knowledge as part of a fun, informal gathering. Bring a unique object, sound, poem or image that you find special or interesting and meet others who share your passion for Felixstowe, its creativity and its creatures. 🦀🪽

To inspire conversations for our meet-up we are joined by three incredible speakers from the region who will be bringing their expertise in artistic practices, conservation and climate research to inspire conversations. 🌿✊

✨Unlocked Creative Michelle Brace will explore how sit spots build wellbeing and nature connection. She shares how human tools - barometers, clocks, Fitbits - can help us tune into the ways other species sense the world and deepen our awareness of both nature and ourselves.

🌳Marley Karazimba Marley Karazimba presents the work of his 3-acre Community Supported Agriculture project Bantu Farm. Deep diving into the organisation’s origins, goals and current activities, Marley will explain the importance of producing crops locally, regeneratively and seasonally for the future of agriculture in Suffolk.

🪏 Stan Willey details his plans for a Felixstowe Permaculture Garden Society, a project seeking funding for 2027 with the goal of modelling a healthy, sustainable ecosystem through permaculture gardening in which crop and culture is grown side-by-side.
