Solar eclipse and meteor showers 💫☀️🌘

Two updates today, as we have a busy week Sky wise.

It all happens Wednesday. Almost full Solar Eclipse, Planets in alignment and then a Meteor Shower.

Timings as per chart. The Sun is fairly low on the horizon at this point, so you will need a good clear view to the West. Obviously don’t look directly at the Sun.

The Alignment of the planets is just before Sunrise, but looking the other way, Eastwards with a clear view of the horizon. Mars and Saturn will be the easiest to spot with just the naked eye. Mercury and Jupiter will be right on the horizon, and depending on your eyes, you may need a telescope or binoculars. The Uranus and Neptune will be very faint and will 100% need the above.

The Meteor shower is active now but will be at its peak on Wednesday into Thursday. The bonus of Wednesday will that it will be moonless, after the Eclipse, so will offer the perfect viewing. 100 to 150 meteors per hour potentially. The best time is from Midnight onwards, but some will be viable as soon as the Sun sets after the eclipse. You will need to find the Perseus constellation, which is roughly North-east. Find somewhere open, take a blanket to lay on, and enjoy the show.
