Economic abuse is a form of domestic abuse. It has many forms, some of them appear as:
- Stopping you from accessing your own bank account, money, or benefits.
- Preventing you from getting a job or keeping one.
- Monitoring, limiting, or controlling how you spend your money.
- Refusing to contribute to shared household costs or bills.
- Taking out credit in your name or building up debt without your consent.

Approximately 1 in 6 women have experienced economic abuse in the UK. And more than a quarter of UK mums (27%) with children under 18 have experienced economic abuse over the past year. Know the signs so you can get help.

Economic abuse is more common than many realise. Economic abuse is about control, restricting access to money, work, housing, or basic necessities. Relationships should be built on trust and equality, never fear or restriction.

📊 The reality in the UK
• 1 in 7 women, experienced economic abuse in the last year alone
• 85% of those experiencing economic abuse also face **other forms of domestic abuse**, including emotional or physical harm
• Only 2 in 5 survivors recognise economic abuse as abuse when it first happens, meaning many suffer in silence.

Raising awareness helps people recognise the signs, seek support sooner, and break the cycle of control. Visit our site or one of our partners to learn more FearFree
