๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿด June Calendar Winner ๐Ÿด๐Ÿƒ

Weโ€™re delighted that Juneโ€™s photograph comes from Sarah Hailstone.

Many of you will know Sarah through , where she shares life on Exmoor through her wonderful photography and storytelling. Sarah is a huge supporter of Exmoor, its wildlife and, of course, its ponies. She spends countless hours out on the moor capturing and promoting everything that makes this place so special.

This photograph perfectly captures a quieter side of the ponies. A simple moment between two herd members, set against the dramatic Exmoor sky.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful for all that Sarah does to champion Exmoor and Exmoor ponies, and weโ€™re thrilled to have her beautiful image representing June in our 2026 calendar. ๐Ÿ’š

Aprilโ€™s calendar winner is Geoff Baylis with this brilliant photo, captured during pony gathering at the incredible Lancombe Crossing.

A proper Exmoor moment. Ponies running, foals keeping up, water splashing, and absolutely no one hanging about.

Itโ€™s full of energy and really captures the herd as they are.

Thank you, Geoff, for a cracking photo for April ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š

Lovely post by Kaimanawa Heritage Horses about an Exmoor pony in New Zealand.

Helensville Show โ€“ Yesterday

We had a great day at the Helensville Show yesterday! It was a wonderful opportunity to talk with the public about why we hold the annual musters, appreciate the the Kaimanawa Horses in the show classes, and share our site alongside the Rare Breeds display, right next to a beautiful Exmoor pony in foal.

It was a lovely reminder of how history shapes the horses we see today.

Exmoor ponies were imported into New Zealand between 1858 and 1875. Some were later crossed with other breeds, including a Welsh stallion named Comet. A stallion and several mares were eventually released into the Ranges.

You can still see the influence of those early horses in todayโ€™s Kaimanawa horses, their sturdy stature, sure-footedness, calm temperament, and natural curiosity.

In later years, Thoroughbred, Clydesdale, and Arab horses were also released into the Ranges, contributing to the unique and versatile type of Kaimanawa horse we know today.

It was special to stand beside a living link to that history and reflect on the origins of these remarkable horses. ๐ŸŽ

โ€œgathering makes tiredโ€

That yawn says it all.

After gathering thereโ€™s always that momentโ€ฆ ponies stood close, manes everywhere, itโ€™s real, itโ€™s honest, and it made us laugh.

Thank you, Ines, for capturing them exactly as they are.

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š Worth a listen ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿด๐Ÿƒ

Weโ€™ve been listening to this recent episode of the Country Life podcast with Tom Hilder. Although the episode title mentions Shetland ponies, Exmoor ponies are actually part of the conversation in the interview itself, alongside wider themes around wildlife, conservation and our relationship with the landscapes we care for.

Itโ€™s always encouraging to hear Exmoor ponies being talked about in a broader conservation context, and to see native breeds recognised for the role they can play in looking after special places.

If you enjoy thoughtful countryside conversations, this oneโ€™s well worth a listen:

Itโ€™s great to see Adam Henson continuing to use his platform to highlight Exmoor ponies and other rare native breeds.

This latest story shares a lovely update and, more importantly, helps shine a light on why these ponies matter and why ongoing care, breeding and conservation work is so important. Adamโ€™s long-standing commitment, through farming and programmes like Countryfile, has done a huge amount to raise awareness and appreciation of native ponies.

Every bit of positive coverage helps more people understand their value, not just historically, but for the future of our landscapes too. A really good piece of news to share. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š
