The Sentencing Act 2026 is bringing significant changes to how prison sentences are served in England and Wales.

Some offenders could now be released after serving between 33% and 50% of their sentence, including those convicted of certain serious knife related offences.

We know this is a topic that will generate strong opinions, particularly for victims, families and communities affected by violence.

National Volunteers' Week

This week, we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible volunteers who make Blades Down what it is.

To every person who gives up their own time, energy, and compassion to support our mission, thank you. Whether you're helping at events, supporting young people, fundraising, raising awareness, or working behind the scenes, your contribution makes a real difference.

Volunteering is about more than giving your time. It's about choosing to stand up for your community, helping create safer futures for young people, and being part of positive change.

The impact of Blades Down would not be possible without the dedication, commitment, and kindness of our volunteers. Your support helps us reach more people, deliver more projects, and continue our work to reduce knife crime and youth violence.

From all of us at Blades Down, thank you for everything you do. We appreciate every hour, every conversation, and every act of support.

Together, we are making a difference.
Together, we are saving lives.
Together, we are creating safer communities.

More Than a Project | George’s Story

George is one of a kind and anyone who knows him would agree.

Not only is George an ambassador and volunteer for Blades Down, but he is also someone our founder, Danni, is lucky enough to call a close family friend. After both experiencing the horrific murder of Lloyd Velasquez, they formed a bond through shared experiences that goes far beyond friendship.

George is wise beyond his years and it is often easy to forget he is still a teenager because of the maturity, responsibility and dedication he shows. Give George a job to do and it gets done. His work ethic is better than most adults, something that is a real credit to the wonderful values instilled by his parents.

As the proud Kitchen Manager at our youth club, George takes his role seriously. Whether it is helping behind the scenes, supporting the team or ensuring things run smoothly, he always steps up and gives his all.

George is a hugely valued member of our team and Blades Down would not be the same without him.

One powerful message. One community standing together. 💛

What a powerful way to end Knife Crime Awareness Week.

Over the past week, 81 young people and trusted adults have taken part in our community pledge, standing together to say enough is enough when it comes to knife crime.

The pledge, inspired by the Ben Kinsella Trust, is a promise to never carry a knife, to walk away from violence, and to speak out and seek help if they or someone they know is at risk. It is about choosing safety, kindness, and making positive decisions, even when life feels difficult.

Seeing so many people, of all ages, take part has been incredibly powerful. Every photo, every pledge, every conversation matters. Because change starts with awareness, education, and communities coming together.

To every young person, parent, professional, friend, and supporter who got involved, thank you. You have helped send a clear message that our community stands united against knife crime.

This may be the end of Knife Crime Awareness Week, but the conversation and the work continue. 🧡
