Have you heard that Philip Jackson has agreed to become the Patron of the Friends of Bassetlaw Museum? The acclaimed, locally born actor visited Retford on Heritage Day in September and treated a small audience to a Question and Answer session. He grew up in Retford before leaving for Bristol University to study Drama and German. Possibly best known for his roles as Chief Inspector Japp in Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’ and Abbot Hugo in ‘Robin of Sherwood’. Philip has had an extensive career in film, television, stage, including the RSC, and radio. The films ‘Brassed Off’ and ‘Little Voice’ are memorable as are his drama and comedy appearances on Radio 4, most recently as Geoff in the third series of ‘The Break’.
It is unclear who is more delighted that Philip has agreed to become our Patron: The Friends for landing such a prestigious local figure or Philip who has said that it gives him another tangible connection with his home town. What is shared, is that we are all looking forward to working together to promote the aims of The Friends and the Museum.
