Why Become a Befriender?
Could you spare an hour a fortnight to brighten someone's day?
At Bassetlaw Action Centre, our Befriending Service helps people who are experiencing loneliness and isolation. By becoming a befriender, you can provide companionship, conversation and a friendly connection to someone who may not see many people from one week to the next.
You can make a genuine difference to someone's life.
You'll help reduce loneliness and give someone something to look forward to each week.
You can share stories, interests, laughter and friendship with someone in your local community.
You'll be matched with someone who may have similar interests or hobbies to you.
The experience can benefit you too, bringing a sense of purpose, connection and personal fulfilment.
Befriending is about much more than simply visiting someone. It's about sharing conversations, memories, smiles and laughter, whilst building a friendship that benefits both people. In fact, many befrienders say they get just as much from the experience as the person they support.
Whether through home visits or phone calls, a small amount of your time can have a lasting impact on someone's wellbeing. If you're a good listener, enjoy meeting people and want to give back to your community, befriending could be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you.

Large text on the left reads: “We urgently need Befriending Volunteers!” Beneath this, a clock icon accompanies the message: “Just 1 hour a fortnight!” A location pin icon appears alongside the text: “Covering the villages surrounding Worksop and Retford.”
At the bottom is a green banner with the Bassetlaw Action Centre logo, 30th anniversary emblem, and contact details: website, telephone number, and email address.
