The Singing Elf

The Singing Elf The Singing Elf is a Social Enterprise based in Pittington, working with local communities in County Durham and Sunderland. So why ‘The Singing Elf’?

We offer singing & creativity with a touch of magic -our programmes support wellbeing & combat social isolation. How The Singing Elf got started...
There’s nothing I love more than helping people to find the joy of singing with others. Singing has always been a huge part of my life and I believe it’s a lifelong journey; it’s never too early or too late to start and there’s no such thing as ‘I can’

t sing’ – everyone has a voice, some people just need a little more help to find it! After taking a break from teaching, I’m so excited to be back singing with groups but in a completely new way with my new business The Singing Elf. I will be offering one-off workshops, courses and weekly sessions to adults of all abilities both in my home town Durham and across the North East. Whether you are a shy beginner looking to find your voice or a veteran diva ready to improve your vocal technique – everyone is welcome! When you come along to a session you can expect to learn more about your voice, build your confidence and have fun singing with others. I’m definitely not a traditional tutor and I like to pull on a wide range of musical styles, mix things up and keep everyone (including me) on my toes! In my opinion an elf is helpful, cheeky and just a little bit magical! My singers often comment on my energetic, upbeat teaching style which they say helps them to quickly relax into and enjoy my sessions. So I guess being an Elf just suits me! Thinking about getting involved?
‘Like’, ‘Comment’ or ‘Share’ things on my feed to tell Facebook you want to be kept updated
Drop me an email to [email protected] to join my mailing list. Get involved, be noisy, tell me what YOU want! Sessions will only run if there’s enough interest shown for the date & time the venues can accommodate us. A bit about me…
I started training my voice aged 11 with my local church choir. It was a great grounding and helped me to progress to singing with Durham County Youth Choir before studying to achieve ABRSM Grade 8. After a decade of performance, I was eager to refocus on helping others to find their voice and trained in Community Musicianship with The Sage Gateshead. Since then I’ve worked with hundreds of singers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds across the North East. As the founder of Darlington Arts Academy I created an award winning youth theatre and kick started community choirs within the town. Following the heart breaking closure of the Academy due to financial cuts, I took a break from singing and moved to Durham where I also work as a marketing consultant. I’m really excited to be back working with new groups and spreading my love of singing through The Singing Elf.

Jessa Liversidge - our lovely friend and Durham Big Sing Vocal Leader is returning to Durham Fringe Festival for the 3rd time to share her stunning voice and we promise you, you won't want to miss it!

Jessa will be sharing her captivating vocals in both a singing workshop and four performances. Team Elf's Rebecca & Sinead will be bringing along our friends to enjoy what we know will be another stunning offer at our local festival.

This Thurs 25th at 12pm in the Palace Green Stretch Tent you will be able to 'Sing your cares away' in Jessa's singing workshop open to all ages. As one of our former expert vocal leaders, we can guarantee an inclusion, gentle, uplifting, heart warming musical experience suitable for everyone.

From Thurs 25th - Sun 28th at 4.30pm in a venue on Palace Green, Jessa will showcase 'Tapestry of Life' - combining songs from Carole King's Classic Album 'Tapestry', interspersed with original pieces inspired by Andrea Brown's 'Life, Love, Loss'. Exploring the universal themes of love and friendship, Jessa's uniquely beautiful performance style will take you on an emotional journey to fill up your heart and calm your soul. Sinead & Rebecca tell us that they will once again enjoying seeing Jessa 'show us how it is done' in her top-class performances. We particularly love listening to familiar songs mixed with brand-new music, all woven together thoughtfully in Jessa's natural story-telling style.
