🌟 Celebrating Small Charities Week! 🌟

As a small charity, every single connection, conversation, and contribution makes a world of difference to us. This , we want to shine a bright light on the incredible work of Hospice at Home Volunteers and say a massive thank you to our amazing community!

From the towns to the surrounding villages we support, our mission is simple: providing vital support to clients and essential respite for carers during difficult times. And we couldn't do it without you.

❤️ Your Impact, Directly to the Frontline
When you support a small charity, you know exactly where your money goes. We are incredibly proud to share that for every £1 received, 84p is spent directly on our volunteer services.

Your donations directly fund comfort, companionship, and a helping hand right where it's needed most.

When a loved one is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, a carer's world shifts.

Suddenly, you are a full-time caregiver, navigating a complex emotional journey while trying to manage the everyday routine.

That is where our amazing volunteers step in.
By visiting for just a few hours a week to sit with a client, run errands, or join them for a chat, our volunteers give local carers the gift of time. Time to attend an appointment, rest, or simply take a breath, knowing their loved one is in safe, caring hands.

As one local carer shared: "Dawn came to sit with my mother once a week to enable my husband and I to attend appointments. That support was invaluable."

We are here to provide strength and encouragement at the most difficult of times. ❤️

🎉 HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR AMAZING VOLUNTEER, CAROLYN BEETON! 🎉

We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud to share some truly wonderful news. Our very own Hospice at Home volunteer, Carolyn Beeton, has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours! 🎖️✨

Carolyn has received this prestigious honour in recognition of the phenomenal, tireless work she does across the communities of Slip End and Luton. Carolyn works to support many different organisations, people and families, not just Hospice at Home.
Whether she is offering a compassionate listening ear, lending a helping hand, or dedicating her time to support clients, residents and families in her community, Carolyn embodies the very spirit of community and care. We see firsthand the difference she makes every single day, and we couldn't think of anyone more deserving of this national recognition.

"Volunteers don't necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." — And Carolyn, your heart is simply golden. 💛

Please join all of us at Hospice at Home in sending Carolyn the biggest congratulations in the comments below! 👇 Thank you, Carolyn, for everything you do. You are an absolute superstar! 🌟

Just over a month ago we launched our “Friends of Hospice at Home” initiative and we’ve received such a fabulous response.

We have gained new “friends”, new supporters and we’ve had some incredible conversations.
We’ve engaged with people who have volunteered in the past, been part of the committee and who have been long term supporters.

We sent out our first newsletter to all of our “friends” - a quarterly planned communication that will provide insight to our work, our future events and what’s coming next.

If you would like to join us as “friend” you can sign up via this link 🔗 https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=DQSIkWdsW0yxEjajBLZtrQAAAAAAAAAAAAO__cE-uKhURFJNMzExVFdCTzdTUlJZNUxaQUtTS0RUMS4u

🏆 Dunstable Rotary Club Honours Maureen Kerr with Prestigious 2026 Community Award

The Dunstable Rotary Club is thrilled to announce Maureen Kerr, Manager of Hospice at Home Volunteers - Dunstable & Houghton Regis Areas (HHV), as the recipient of the 2026 Dunstable Rotary Club Award.
Each year, the club recognises an individual or organisation that has gone above and beyond to improve the wellbeing of the local community. Maureen’s 17 years of unwavering dedication to supporting those with life-limiting illnesses makes her the ultimate embodiment of the Rotary motto: “Service above Self.”

🌟 Going Above and Beyond
Maureen manages HHV across Dunstable, Houghton Regis, and the surrounding villages. While she is contracted for just 16 hours a week, her passion turns her role into a vocation—frequently volunteering up to 40 hours a week without complaint to ensure local families never face difficult times alone.

Why Maureen is 2026’s Worthy Recipient:

Pandemic Resilience: Her leadership and strength sustained HHV through the challenges of the pandemic and have continued to elevate the charity ever since.

Bespoke Care & Matching: Maureen personally risk-assesses client situations and thoughtfully pairs them with volunteers who share similar interests, ensuring deep emotional and practical support.

Comprehensive Support: From professional, free care for patients to vital advice for caregivers and essential bereavement follow-ups, Maureen covers every step of the journey with kindness.

A Family Affair: The award also nods to the invaluable support of Maureen’s husband and sons, who are always on hand to brave the weather, set up gazebos, and run fundraising stalls.

Maureen was nominated by Ian Coulter, Past President and said “Maureen's dedication, hard work, and caring personality have built an incredible bridge of support in our community. She epitomises everything the Rotary stands for—commitment, care, and kindness to the communities we serve."

Well done Maureen, so thoroughly deserved.
