This evening our team Me You and Them and For You NI Online undertook End violence against Women and Girls training. This essential training strengthens our team’s ability to support women and girls affected by violence with the care, safety, and dignity they deserve. Violence—whether physical, emotional, sexual, or coercive—has deep and lasting impacts.

The training covered how to respond effectively, our team must understand not only the signs and dynamics of abuse but also the trauma that survivors carry with them. We also need to know what other services are out there to support women and girls.

This training ensures that every member of our team can provide safe, informed, and compassionate support. It helps us recognise risk, respond without judgement, maintain confidentiality, and empower survivors to make their own choices.

It also builds our confidence in using appropriate language, creating safe spaces, and connecting women and girls with the right services at the right time.

Ultimately, this training strengthens our entire organisation and community. It ensures that when a woman or girl reaches out—often at one of the most vulnerable moments of her life—we are prepared, skilled, and ready to respond in a way that promotes healing, safety, and hop

Thank you to Diane Thrive & Rise for coming along this evening and providing us with the information.

The Human Reality Behind the Data
held reveal the emotional depth of the harm:
* “I felt hopeless and suicidal… I can see hope now.”

* “My self‑esteem was at rock bottom… I attempted su***de several times.”

‘’ I couldn’t trust anyone, I was trapped’’

These voices highlight that violence is not just a physical threat—it reshapes identity, safety, and mental wellbeing.

To date this year , 6 women have lost their lives at the hands of a man, men known to them and in their own home 😢 A place you should be safe 😢

Mental Health Services need more training to support women and girls impacted by violence

⚠️ Under‑identification and Lack of Support

* Mental health professionals often miss signs of abuse, leading to inadequate treatment.

* Survivors frequently encounter fragmented, bureaucratic systems that overwhelm rather than support them.

Need for Trauma‑Informed Care

* Experts call for:

* Better identification of abuse

* Integrated mental health and domestic abuse services

* More funding for specialist support

* More funding for grass route projects.

* Trauma‑informed therapeutic approaches

When communities stand together, they create a culture where violence is not just reported but prevented, ensuring women and girls feel safe, valued, and empowered.
