What does DPA mean to you? 📷

We recently asked our members that question, and David Scott shared his story.

David joined DPA in 2005/06 after being introduced by his father. His first annual competition resulted in an SPF Silver Medal — a moment he describes as the defining point that kick-started his photographic journey.

Here’s David’s story in his own words:

"I was introduced to the club 2005/2006 by my father and eternally grateful to him.

A stand out memory for me was my first annual competition, I was awarded with the SPF silver medal, my father was absolutely thrilled, I was pretty stunned, the print that won it was of a red setter dog running through long grass, shot on a second hand canon eos350d and an old sigma zoom lens.

This was a defining moment for me as it kick started my photographic journey and I went on to club, national and international success. Tuesday night club night was always great for me, it is such a friendly club, wonderful people. I still get the same buzz now when I'm packing my camera gear to head out for a photo shoot.
Cheers"

Have you seen the recent Dunfermline Press article about the Dunfermline Photographic Association and the start of our new season? 📷

It’s great to see the Association featured and to have the opportunity to highlight what we offer to local photographers.
We’d love to hear from members — past or present — about your experience of DPA.

What have you enjoyed most? Has being part of the Association helped you develop your photography, meet new people, try something different or simply enjoy photography more?

Please share your experiences in the comments. It would be great to hear from you — and it may also give anyone considering joining us an idea of what they can expect.

The new season for the Dunfermline Photographic Association will begin in September.

📷 DPA at the Edinburgh Festival
Our summer outing took us into the heart of Edinburgh and the Festival, with the Royal Mile providing plenty of opportunities for street photography.

Festival performers, colourful characters, crowds and some particularly entertaining jugglers provided plenty to point the cameras at. The weather was kind to us too, making for a very enjoyable day out.

A great day of photography and good company in one of the most photogenic settings Edinburgh has to offer.

DPA members enjoyed a lovely day out at the Edinburgh Festival, meeting first at Waverley Station for a coffee before heading towards the Royal Mile. With the Festival in full swing, there was no shortage of photographic opportunities. The streets were alive with performers, festival characters, col...

🦅 Dunfermline Photographic Association at Argaty Red Kites 🐿️
Our members recently enjoyed a fantastic day at Argaty Red Kites, near Doune, photographing a wonderful variety of wildlife.

Our July outing took us to Argaty Red Kites, near Doune, for a pre-booked wildlife photography experience. The day combined a morning in the woodland bird hide with an afternoon photographing the famous Red Kite feeding session. We arrived at the Argaty Visitor Centre just after 9.30 am, shortly aft...
