🚨 Being Prepared: A session for people with learning disabilities and families to think about emergency planning

As the government starts to talk about people being prepared for over the winter, Learning Disability England is running a session about emergency planning. This session is a chance for people and families to come together to talk about what's important.

Learning Disability England will share:

• Recommendations from How We Survive and Thrive
• What we can do to prepare for emergencies
• Ideas of what works well in an emergency

What a brilliant time everyone had at the Dance and Smile group yesterday - practising their halloween moves - spooky 🥸

We had a great 'Art in Nature' session today at Community Support Services. We visited Manor Heath, explored the walled garden and park area. We collected sticks, leaves and other autumnal items to make hedgehog pictures and used them in our web design. We are looking forward to our art exhibition which will take place in March 2027 - watch out for more information. Thankyou to CultureDale for funding this fantastic project.

A step back in time The Piece Hall

Today we enjoyed a fantastic Heritage tour, discovering fascinating facts about the history of Halifax's iconic Piece Hall and learning more about its importance to our local heritage. 30 people attended this great session.

We also had the opportunity to try our hand at weaving and appreciated an important part in our town's textile history.

It was a brilliant opportunity to learn something new, explore our local history and celebrate what makes our community so special.

A big thank you to people who participated Magpies Calderdale College The Mayfield Trust and to Kate for organising. A big shout out to the lovely Piece Hall volunteers Jill and Andrea who showed us around - we all loved it, thank you.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

It’s an important reminder that our mental health matters just as much as our physical health, and that everyone should feel able to talk about how they’re really feeling.

This year’s theme is being heard.

People with learning disabilities can face additional barriers when trying to talk about their mental health, ask for support or make their voices heard. That’s why listening, inclusion and creating safe spaces where people feel valued and understood are so important.

Today, and every day, we can all make a difference:

💬 Be kind and take time to listen.
🧠 Talk openly about mental health.
🤝 Make inclusion the norm, not the exception.

Great news!!! Imagineer is running these Direct Payment workshops in partnership with Accessible Calderdale and Visits Unlimited through the rest of 2026 and early 2027.
The topics covered are based on what people receiving Direct Payments, or interested in this option, have said they would like to know more about.

These sessions are free of charge and open to people in Calderdale and surrounding areas.
