In the 1950s the derelict canal was about to be formally closed. A high profile campaign to save it started with a petition to the queen. We campaigned to bring the K&A back to life. We raised funds, we chivied and we recruited. Gradually we won over the sceptical and hostile. Over 40 years, many thousands of volunteers gave millions of hours to hard work on the ground to restore the 87 miles of c

anal. Today we're the only organisation that campaigns solely for the Kennet and Avon. Our strength is in our local knowledge and representation through our branches based along Reading, Newbury, Hungerford, Crofton, Devizes, Bradford on Avon and Bath & Bristol. Our branches use volunteers to
Look after and operate our steam engine at Crofton. Crew our 4 public passenger boats.
|Manage our Museum and visitor centres. Run our major water festivals. work on the bankside to maintain and improve our cut. preserve and present the heritage of the K&A.

A huge thank you to the wonderful Kennet and Avon Canal Trust for giving our families the chance to enjoy a beautiful canal boat ride in the sunshine. It was such an amazing experience, the smiles, the laughter, and the peaceful views made it truly special. What a way to enjoy a fantastic summer of activities for our families!☀️
