Strathcarron Hospice We're a Hospice charity providing free specialist palliative & end of life care for local people. We need to raise over £14,632 every day to keep these running.

Strathcarron Hospice is here today for and because of the people of Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. Every year, we provide care and support to over 1,400 people with a life-limiting illness or condition, at a time when both they and their family need it most. Our philosophy is about living until you die and we ensure people have every opportunity to achieve their goals right up until the last moment. Strathcarron is an independent hospice and all of our care is provided free of charge. Our services include a 24-bed inpatient unit, Day Care, Hospice@Home, Community Nurse Specialists and Lymphoedema clinic.

Everyone has a special story to tell of someone who has died who they miss 🩵

A grandparent who had a fascinating life.

The friend who had a unique sense of humour.

A parent who was the life and soul of the party.

A person’s death does not diminish the meaning of the relationship we have with them.

This week, as we mark To Absent Friends Week, we invite you to share a cherished memory of a loved one.

Perhaps this week you can allow yourself space and time to reflect 🩵

💬 Talk about your memories of those who have died.
📷 Share photo albums with your grandchildren.
🍰 Invite your friends round to try your granny’s favourite recipe.
🕯️ Light a candle for a loved one you have lost

On this day 1st November 2026, all our services in the Hospice and across the local community have been funded in loving memory of Gaile Murphy, one year on since she passed away within the care of Strathcarron.

Gaile, who was only 56 when she died, was well known in the town of Bridge of Allan where she lived most of her life.

Gaile’s husband Robert said: “Gaile was one of a kind – she was the life and soul of the party. She put everyone else first, she was very kind, loving and caring. She worked as a childminder for over 25 years and the kids she looked after adored her. She loved it – it was more than a job to her.

“She had a great sense of humour and a real lust for life. We were shocked and devastated when she was diagnosed with cancer.

“The support given to us by Strathcarron as a family at home and in the Hospice was second to none. We were scared of coming to the Hospice at first, but it’s such a lovely place.

“Her room over looked the hills, and they made her comfortable and helped manage her pain. Gaile was only in the Hospice for a short time but the care felt very personal, the staff were wonderful and clear about what was happening.

“The support was there for all the family, not just for Gaile.”

-----------------

Gaile and her mum Doreen, who sadly passed away just 2 weeks before her daughter, have both also been remembered with a special sculpture in the grounds of the University of Stirling ‘Garden of Time’ where they both once worked.

The picturesque grounds hold a special place in Robert’s heart and he and Gaile got engage there.

Gaile will also be remembered with a dedicated Christmas light on Henderson street’s festive display in Bridge of Allan which the family has sponsored.

Bridge of Allan Primary has also dedicated an annual trophy recognising care and kindness to be presented to a P7 in her name in her memory.

The Murphy family would like to thank everyone who has supported their fundraising.
A special mention goes to family friends Linda and Euan who have been an incredible support to Robert, Kerr and Eve.

Thank you to Bo’ness Academy for creating such a fantastic event to help celebrate 45 years of hospice care!

Pupils from Bo’ness, as well as Larbert High School Denny High School and Falkirk High School hosted special events as part of the hospice’s ‘Celebrate 45’ campaign, marking its anniversary year and encouraging communities to support their local hospice.

These local schools signed up after a call out to local schools from us and DYW Forth Valley Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Forth Valley - and each came to the table with their own story to tell.

Each school brought its own creativity, compassion and personal connections to the events, demonstrating the important role the hospice plays across the community.

Thank you everyone!

Fankerton Road Wall Update

I want to offer my sincere apologies to our neighbours in Fankerton, Denny and beyond for the ongoing disruption caused by the temporary traffic lights on Fankerton Road, following the collapse of the external wall at Strathcarron Hospice during Storm Amy in October 2025.

I know how frustrating this has been for local residents and road users, and I am truly sorry that it has taken so long to reach this point.

I would like to thank local councillor Paul Garner for his support and for working with us as we seek to resolve this issue. We recognise the concerns raised by local residents and appreciate his involvement in representing your interests.

For several months, we have been awaiting a final decision from our insurers before we could move forward with the necessary repairs. We have now received confirmation that the cost of the work will unfortunately not be reimbursed to the Hospice, so we will therefore fund the repairs ourselves so that work can progress without further delay.

Work is scheduled to begin on 6 January 2027, with completion expected in early spring 2027.

I fully understand the community’s frustration and share your desire to see the work completed and the pavement and road reopened safely. I am committed to keeping you informed, and we will share regular updates on progress through our social media channels as the work gets underway.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thank you to everyone has sent us in their fond Strathcarron connections and memories as part of our Celebrate 45 year!

Helen has shared these lovely memories of her time working with us 🥹 🩵 :

"I worked for the fantastic Hospice at Home team 2017-2021. It's still the best job I've had and I was so sad to leave the team after I finished my registered nurse training!

"I still talk fondly to people about my years with Strathcarron Hospice because I just loved it. Being able to provide high quality care to patients and their families that needed it most was so rewarding.

"Fulfilling a person's wish of staying at home was a privilege I'll never take for granted.

"The team joined my wedding ceremony on Zoom in 2021, and gave us beautiful wedding gifts. Many of them also joined us in 2022 for our wedding reception after all COVID restrictions lifted. They are just outstanding people.

"I also fundraised by baking afternoon teas for the 40th birthday for Strathcarron Hospice.

"I'd encourage anyone and everyone to support Strathcarron Hospice any way they can, and if you have an opportunity of a career with them jump on it!"

Strathcarron Hospice is more than an inpatient unit.

Our reach extends far beyond our walls. Over 80% of our care happens within the communities we serve.

Strathcarron Hospice has a hub of multidisciplinary teams who come together to share knowledge, discuss the people and families they support across the communities they serve, and coordinate wider care.

This joined-up approach means people can access the right support as their needs change, whether that's care at home, rehabilitation, complementary therapy, bereavement support or another specialist service.

Everything we do in our community, is for our community, and with our community, to enable people to live and die well.

🫶 NEW FUNDRAISING ROLE ALERT 🫶

Love bringing people together? Ready to make a difference? 💙

Just look at what our community can achieve when it comes together!

On Sunday, 362 runners took part in the Strathcarron Hospice 10K, raising an incredible £54,000 and counting for local hospice care. There was colour, laughter, determination and an amazing sense of community spirit – all coming together to make a real difference to local people and their families.
And behind every event like this is a team making it happen.

We’re looking for a Temporary Event and Challenge Fundraising Assistant to join our Fundraising Team!

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves working with people, enjoys a challenge and wants to build their experience in fundraising and events.

From supporting exciting in-person events to helping people take on virtual and overseas challenges, you’ll work alongside an experienced team to bring ideas to life, support our incredible fundraisers and help create positive experiences for everyone who gets involved.

You’ll need a can-do attitude, great communication and relationship-building skills, and a willingness to learn. Most importantly, you’ll want to be part of something that genuinely matters.

Because at Strathcarron Hospice, fundraising is about so much more than raising money. It’s about bringing people together, building connections and helping ensure local people can access hospice care when they need it most.
💙 Could this be your next opportunity?

📩 For an informal chat, contact Claire Kennedy, Acting Fundraising Manager, on 01324 826222 or [email protected].

Please note: Applications must be made using the official application form. CVs will not be accepted.

Help us make more moments like these happen. Join our team!
