People supporting mental wellbeing across Thanet Dover and Folkestone were recognised @ Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards on Friday. Our KCV Trustee Heather presented the Volunteer of the Year trophy to Mary Wade, who has dedicated 16 years to volunteering for the Royal British Legion at Maurice House in Broadstairs. Projects such as The Missing Project in Deal and Wilderness to Wonderland in Margate were highlighted - as was breast cancer charity fundraiser Kerry Banks. It was lovely to catch up with our former KCV colleague Caroline, who received an award as part of the QEQM Therapies Wellbeing Team. Other groups recognised on the night included East Kent Spurs Supporters Club, the Probation Service / Seetec and the Home Straight Team and STAK.life CIC. Kent Su***de Prevention Project - Emerge Advocacy - won an award for their work supporting young people in crisis in A&E. Underlying the event was the serious issue of mental health - and we were reminded that someone dies by su***de approximately every 43 seconds. Against such stark reality, it was inspiring to see the actions people are taking in their own communities to care for each other ***dePrevention

We were honoured to be part of the judging panel for the and to attend the awards ceremony on Friday evening.

At a time when so many people and communities are facing so many challenges, it was inspiring to see the incredible work being done by groups across Kent to support mental wellbeing.

Congratulations to everyone helping to make Kent a place where mental wellbeing matters ❤️

We had an amazing and inspirational evening – with 45 winners announced and 16 Kent Champions crowned (pictured).

Each membership contributes to essential funds that support the charity's mission and programs, making a real difference in the community.

A big thank you to the Philip and Connie Phillips Foundation with Colyer Fergusson Charitable Trust for funding our Good Neighbours Service this past year:

“The service saved my life,” says Dennis. Before meeting befriender Lauren, he says he was "watching the clock waiting to die." Now, his daughter says he has a “new lease of life” thanks to their friendship.

Lauren sought to give back and build intergenerational connections. Together, they created a video promoting a volunteer event that attracted 28 applications, resulting in 15 new befrienders.

Michaela and Sarah from the Good Neighbours Service team supported this initiative and continue to make matches. Lauren and Dennis show how befriending can transform lives—regular visits or conversations can greatly reduce loneliness and restore community ties.

Many people we support are unable to leave home, or temporarily housebound following bereavement, illness or a fall. Even with loving families, loneliness can take hold. Our service offers friendship, connection and hope when it is needed most.

🌟 We had to share this again! 🌟

This is such a fantastic resource created by our brilliant volunteer Lauren – we love it! 💙

A huge thank you to Kent County Councillor Cllr Rob Yates for funding the event. Thanks to his support, we received 25 applications on the night towards our 30-strong Thanet waiting list.

That’s an AMAZING result! 🙌🎉

We had such a lovely day visiting Romney Marsh Community Hub last Tuesday and meeting some of the amazing volunteers who drive for The Marsh Bee. 💙🚗

We asked them what they enjoy about volunteering, and their answers really brought home just how much it can mean:
