Col is one of the latest patients in our Inpatient Unit to benefit from our new cuddle bed. Not only has he been enjoying the comfort it offers but it has also helped him spend more time outdoors, enjoying the sunshine and our beautiful hospice grounds.

Thanks to a kind donation St Teresa’s Hospice has recently purchased the specialist cuddle bed for the Inpatient Unit.

Col told us how members of the team encouraged him to explore the hospice gardens. He was given a tour of the grounds, including our tree with an old woodpecker hole and some of the spots where owls have been seen in the past. One of Col’s favourite experiences has been watching the foxes that regularly visit our gardens.

“It brings me so much joy to watch them,” he said.

Our cuddle bed, combined with specialist patio doors and accessible outdoor spaces, helps ensure patients can make the most of the fresh air and peaceful surroundings.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Bloom In June Viewing Day on Saturday🌼

Saturday was a beautiful day, and the sun shone on over 250 ornamental flowers, each one dedicated in memory of someone special 🌻

A big thank you to Darlington SING Community Choir for their wonderful performance💚

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event—you’ve helped make a meaningful difference to patients and their families during some of life’s most challenging moments 💚

If you would like to buy a flower, they will remain on sale on our website until the end of June.

This year, Mencap's Learning Disability Week runs from 15th-21st June, and the theme is 'Do you see me?'.

We're working with a variety of organisations to improve access to compassionate hospice care for people with learning disabilities, and we provide extra training to all our staff to help patients across our own services. We want to make sure everyone receives the right support at the right time.
