This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating the team at Lindisfarne Court, who regularly give back to their local community by getting involved in litter picks.

It’s something they’re proud to do as part of their community, and this time they joined other local volunteers to fill bags of rubbish - a great team effort.

Moments like this are what doing good is all about - helping out where we can, and hopefully inspiring others to do the same.

A reminder this that even something as simple as picking up litter on a walk can have a big impact.

Well done Lindisfarne Court 👏

You can't fake a culture where people genuinely care.

When Learning and Development Manager Vicky joined SJOG, one thing became clear very quickly: people genuinely want to make a difference.

She saw how committed colleagues are to learning, developing, and being the best they can be for the people they support.

SJOG has joined organisations across the modern slavery and human trafficking sector to respond to proposed reforms in the Immigration and Asylum Bill.

While there are potential positive steps around support for child victims, we are concerned that wider changes could weaken protections and increase the risk of exploitation for survivors.

A safeguarding-first approach must remain at the heart of any reform - prioritising prevention, protection and long-term recovery.

Survivors deserve the support they need to rebuild their lives safely - without fear of re-exploitation.

“They’re a proper SJOG person”… it’s something we hear every day, especially from people meeting us for the first time.

It’s hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

Recently, these thoughtful little jars appeared on desks across Head Office - no name, no recognition, just a quiet act of kindness.

One colleague said, “This gorgeous little jar turned up on my desk and we have no idea who left them! Whoever you are, thank you! It made me smile!”

And really, that’s what it comes down to - kind, compassionate people living our values every day, not because we have to, but because it’s part of who we are… proper SJOG people.

Bank Holidays Aren't for Everyone…

Some bank holidays are tied to religious festivals or cultural events that people don’t celebrate.

That's why we provide our colleagues with the flexibility to use their annual leave to celebrate the dates that matter most to them.

Whether that's Diwali, Eid, Passover, a bank holiday, or any other meaningful occasion.

Prosopagnosia, or face blindness, is a neurological or developmental condition characterised by impaired facial recognition.

Although widely studied in cognitive neuroscience, its impact on autistic individuals, particularly those with higher support needs remains underexamined.

New from our COO, Dr Lisa Alcorn, this brief report synthesises current research on developmental and acquired prosopagnosia, outlines its neuroanatomical basis, and integrates first-person autistic accounts to illuminate the lived experience of face blindness.
