Another fantastic morning at our bacon roll morning. A warm welcome was extended to Naomi from Voice of Carers Across Lothian (VOCAL). Naomi explained what vocal can offer to those who are carers in the Lothians. Also it was a special day for one of our veterans who celebrated his 81st birthday. Happy Birthday Jimmy we hope you have a great weekend.

Today I’ve published my new report on veterans and employment.

Employment is key to a successful transition to civilian life, and while most veterans go on to thrive in second careers, some still need support.

Scotland has made strong progress, but more can be done. We must turn intent into consistent action, strengthen leadership and data, and ensure every veteran can access the opportunities available.

FEMALE VETERANS' DROP-IN 2ND JULY

Our next female veterans’ drop-in is on:

Thursday 2nd July from 5-8pm.

This is a chance to socialise with other ex-servicewomen in an all-female, safe and welcoming environment and get any other support you may need.
We will be providing the food, all you need to do is turn up. You can also bring kids if you have no childcare.
If you require transport please let the team know by midday 26th June.

We look forward to seeing our regulars as well as any new women that want to join us!

There are now new processes in place with NHS Lothian for Veterans who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

Please see the attached flyer for an overview of the steps to access care and support.

NHS Lothian will also have a stall at the Armed Forces Community: Big Day Out on Saturday 20th June dedicated to supporting Veterans in accessing mental health services.

Veterans Services Surgery

Hi Troops.

Aga from Veterans Services (Vets UK) will be holding a surgery on Tuesday the 23rd af June at LVC from 10am until 2pm
(last appointment 1.30pm)

Aga can help with welfare related and/or new applications for any War Pension and supplements or AFCS including any reviews for further/worsening conditions.

DWP Surgery

Hi Troops

Alan McEwan from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) will be at LVC on Thursday the 25th June from 10am until 4pm. (last appointment 3pm)

Alan will able to help with working age benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support, (New Style) Jobseekers Allowance, (New Style) Employment Support Allowance, also any enquiries related to the Work Capability Assessment.

We are really sad to announce that Ray, one of our much loved veterans, has passed away. The details of his funeral are below.

Ray (Raymond) Smith
Musselburgh

Peacefully, on Saturday 6th June, 2026, aged 79, at the Western General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Ray, devoted husband to Caroyln, much-loved dad of Perrotine and Debora, amazing grandad to Kelland and Abigale, and the best father-in-law to Robert and Mark.

A proud Royal Navy veteran and a true friend to many, Ray leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and warmth that will never be forgotten.
A service to celebrate Ray's life will be held on Friday 19th June at 2.30pm at East Lothian Crematorium to which all family and freinds are welcome.
Those attending are warmly encouraged to wear a touch of colour in keeping with Ray's spirit and to help celebrate a life so well lived. Family flowers only, please.
Donations are welcomed for Musselburgh & District Veterans or Parkinson's UK in loving memory of Ray.
