Meet the Teams
Working together with emergency services all across the UK, it is our aim to have a DocBike associated with every air ambulance charity around the country. We are a new charity, but the enthusiasm of local bikers, colleagues in the Emergency Services and other agencies throughout the UK means that we are expanding rapidly.
Dorset
Dorset is where the DocBike charity was born. After immense success and with the support of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, the expansion of the charity across the UK was inevitable. Dorset is also the home of the DocBike Headquarters.
DocBike Dorset joins colleagues across the UK in working to reduce motorcycle deaths and serious injuries through rider engagement, skills development, and road-safety awareness. Based in Dorset, we have initiated DocBike’s nationwide efforts to help motorcyclists become more skilful, better informed, and safer on two wheels.
We have established connections with local partners and helped to raise awareness of motorcycle risk in our communities. If you’re interested in what we’re doing — whether you ride yourself, work with riders, or would like to be involved — we’d be happy to hear from you and explore how you might support our work. Volunteers of all kinds are welcome to get in touch at https://docbike.org/volunteer/

So what difference does this trend in improving motorcycle helmet safety really mean? Well, for exactly the same set of collision loads to a rider’s helmet, where previously riders had a 60-80% chance of sustaining a serious/severe head injury if had they purchased a 1 star helmet model, riders now have a 60-80% chance of receiving only a slight head injury if they buy a 5 star helmet model. The difference is walking away from a crash with mild concussion, versus a week in intensive care and potentially life limiting repercussions. With so many riders now choosing to wear R22.06 certified helmets, the benefits are clear.
Crucially, SHARP continues to observe no correlation between helmet model price and SHARP star rating. Among the R22.06 helmets tested so far, 5 star rated helmets have been available to buy in all price ranges: from budget helmets for moped riders, through to high end helmets for professional riders.
Surprisingly, SHARP is still finding new R22.06 helmets that only achieve a SHARP 3 star rating. These are perfectly legal, but there is definitely a higher risk associated with wearing such a helmet model. Only a SHARP star rating can identify and quantify these risks between helmet designs for riders.

Would you know what to do if you're first on scene at a motorcycle accident?

Biker Down is a free course, originally developed by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which is taught across the UK by emergency service professionals.
Biker Down teaches vital scene management and first aid skills to keep an injured motorcyclist safe and alive until paramedics arrive.
Mental Health Motorbike are proud to be working with DocBike Dorset to organise a Biker Down course for motorcyclists who are Armed Forces Veterans, currently serving, or Reservists.
The course will be held at The Churchill Arms, Alderholt on Wednesday the 28th of October, between 19:00 - 22:00.
Spaces are limited, and bookings can be made online at the following web address: https://docbike.beaconforms.com/form/b1574492
This is a great opportunity for the armed forces community to connect with each other whilst learning essential first aid skills. Our Mental Health Motorbike team will also be here to engage with veterans to raise awareness of mental health, and the support services available.
If you're not connected to military service but would like to attend Biker Down, visit the DocBike website to find out if they deliver courses in your area: https://docbike.org/bikerdown/
Or search DocBike’s National Directory: https://docbike.org/bikerdown-directory/
