🎶🇬🇧 A proud moment for RBL Cookstown Branch 🇬🇧🎶

RBL Cookstown Branch would like to congratulate our very own Piper Bert Harkness following a memorable weekend in London.

Whilst attending Trooping the Colour and experiencing one of the most iconic ceremonial occasions in the calendar, Bert also took part in the Combined Irish Regiments Remembrance Parade — an event of deep significance and tradition.

We are especially proud that Bert was once again selected to perform the Lament — a privilege and honour that reflects the respect placed in his musicianship, professionalism and dedication to ceremonial standards.

To be entrusted with such an important role during an occasion of remembrance is something truly special and is a credit to Bert, his commitment and the standards he continually upholds.

Well done Bert — everyone at RBL Cookstown Branch is incredibly proud of you and delighted to see you representing with such distinction.

🇬🇧 Falklands Liberation Day – 14 June 🇬🇧

Today, RBL Cookstown Branch remembers and honours all those who served during the Falklands War and marks Falklands Liberation Day.

We pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice and determination of the Armed Forces and remember those who gave their lives in securing the liberation of the Falkland Islands on 14 June 1982.

Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

A wonderful day enjoyed by members of RBL Cookstown Women’s Section, filled with friendship, laughter and great company.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mid Ulster District Council for their generous funding support, which made this event possible.

Thanks to this funding, we were able to bring people together, create meaningful experiences, and provide an enjoyable and welcoming opportunity for everyone who attended.

We are grateful for the continued support of Mid Ulster District Council and their commitment to supporting local communities and community-based initiatives.

A special thank you goes to our Treasurer, 𝗞𝗶𝗺, for organising such an excellent day out. Your time, effort and attention to detail has helped make the day such an enjoyable and memorable occasion for everyone.

The Women’s Section continues to grow through opportunities like these — bringing members together, strengthening friendships and enjoying time in each other’s company while supporting the values of the Royal British Legion.

🌺 D-Day 82 Tribute Service | Bayeux War Cemetery | Normandy 🇫🇷
🕑 Saturday 6 June 2026

Today, at the historic Bayeux War Cemetery, veterans, families and communities gathered in remembrance to mark the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day and pay tribute to all those who took part in the Allied landings and the Battle of Normandy.

Organised in partnership with the Royal British Legion, this moving service provided an opportunity to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and enduring legacy of the men and women who changed the course of history on 6 June 1944.

Cookstown Branch is immensely proud to be represented at this significant act of remembrance by two outstanding Branch members:

🎖️ Miss Ellie Parke – RBL National Standard Bearer

To have both the National Parade Marshal and National Standard Bearer from RBL Cookstown Branch present at Normandy is a tremendous honour and recognition of the dedication, commitment and service shown within our Branch.

As standards stand in silent tribute and wreaths are laid in remembrance, we remember all those who served, those who never returned home, and those whose sacrifice secured our future.

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
