Supporting our community – July Grant Awards

At our July grants meeting, the Trustees of Congleton Inclosure Trust were delighted to award funding to four fantastic organisations, all making a real difference to people in and around Congleton.

SOL Theatre School – funding will cover the fees for four children whose families may otherwise be unable to afford for them to take part in a two-week programme, culminating in a performance of Guys and Dolls. A wonderful opportunity for the children to build confidence, develop new skills and be part of something special.

Circus Starr – funding will provide tickets for disabled, neurodiverse and disadvantaged children and their families to experience Circus Starr's accessible circus when it comes to the local area. Their performances are designed so that everyone can enjoy the magic of the circus.

Douglas Macmillan Hospice – a grant towards the work of their Family Support Team, helping them provide much-needed practical and emotional support to local families during incredibly difficult times.

The Old Saw Mill – funding to support their free community meal service for people who may be socially isolated or experiencing financial difficulties. More than 120 local adults receive a freshly cooked meal each week, prepared by volunteers at Congleton Town Hall and delivered by a fantastic team of volunteers. The service also provides meaningful volunteering opportunities for around 25 local people.

We are proud to support East Cheshire Hospice's PACE (Palliative Advice Centre East) service and the difference it is making to local people and their families.

PACE provides a single 24/7 point of contact for anyone who receives a terminal diagnosis, giving patients, families and healthcare professionals rapid access to expert advice from specialist palliative care clinicians. The service helps ensure people receive the right care at the right time, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and supporting those who wish to remain at home during the final weeks of life.

One family recently shared how PACE made a real difference when their loved one wanted to stay at home. The team worked closely with the patient's GP and the Hospice service to coordinate care, respond quickly to changing needs and provide reassurance whenever the family needed support. Having access to specialist advice and home visits at such a difficult time provided invaluable comfort and peace of mind.

In the past year, 21% of referrals to the PACE service came from Congleton and the surrounding areas, highlighting just how important this service is for our local community.

We are proud to support projects that make such a meaningful difference to the lives of local people and their families. Thank you to everyone at East Cheshire Hospice for the outstanding care and support you continue to provide across our community.

Supporting Better Respiratory Care at Congleton War Memorial Hospital

The Trustees of Congleton Inclosure Trust are delighted to have awarded a grant to fund the provision of 6 new nebulisers for use at Aston Ward and across Congleton War Memorial Hospital.

The funding was secured through Asthma Relief, which applies for funding and then distributes equipment and resources to healthcare settings where they are needed most. Their work helps ensure vital respiratory care equipment reaches frontline services and patients who will benefit from it the most.

Recently, Trustees Janet, Brenda and Adele visited Aston Ward to see first-hand how the equipment will support local patients and to meet the dedicated healthcare team who will be using it. During the visit, staff explained how thrilled they were to receive these vital additional resources, which will enhance patient care both on the ward and throughout the hospital.

The nebulisers will help support people living with respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD, enabling timely treatment. The equipment forms part of a wider programme that has already helped many patients access essential respiratory care and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

It was wonderful to hear directly from the team about the positive difference this grant will make to patients and staff alike.

Congleton Inclosure Trust is proud to support projects that improve health and wellbeing for local residents, and we look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding in the months and years ahead.

We would also like to thank Asthma Relief for their work in identifying needs, securing funding opportunities, and ensuring equipment is distributed where it can make the greatest impact.

Congratulations to Congleton Live!

Congleton Inclosure Trust is delighted to congratulate Congleton Live CIC on receiving the Town Mayor's Civic Team Award in recognition of its outstanding contribution to our community.

For more than 15 years, the dedicated volunteers behind Congleton Jazz & Blues and Congleton Unplugged have helped make live music a vibrant part of Congleton life. Their festivals bring people together, support local businesses, attract visitors to our town centre, and showcase the incredible talent and community spirit that make Congleton such a special place.

We are proud to support Congleton Live and their work alongside Congleton Town Council, Congleton Town Trust, and local business sponsors. This award is a well-deserved recognition of the hard work, passion, and commitment of everyone involved.

We look forward to another fantastic Congleton Jazz & Blues Festival on 29–30 August and wish the team every success for the future.

Grant Spotlight

The Congleton Inclosure Trust was delighted to award a grant to Congleton Musical Theatre (CMT) in support of their recent production of Little Shop of Horrors.

The grant helped fund a life-size puppet of the musical’s iconic man-eating plant, enabling CMT to deliver a high-quality and memorable production for local audiences.

CMT has been an important part of the Congleton community since 1932, bringing professional-style musical productions to the town year after year. Thanks to this funding, the group can continue to build secure and sustainable productions for the future.

The project supported:
10 cast members
15 volunteers, committee members, designers and producers behind the scenes
Around 1,100 audience members from the local community

We are proud to support local organisations that bring creativity, entertainment and community spirit to Congleton.

Supporting children through play

At Congleton Inclosure Trust, we are very pleased to have recently awarded a grant to Dougie Mac, helping to support young children through specialised play activities.

The funding has enabled a range of engaging experiences. The play team at Dougie Mac ensure there is always something fun to do, whether one-to-one or in a group. Every activity is carefully adapted so each child can fully engage, express themselves, and thrive. Sessions can often get wonderfully messy too, with lots of paint and glitter involved!

Their team is Makaton trained and uses a variety of communication methods to ensure every child’s voice is heard and valued.

A parent shared:
“It’s such a fun place. There’s so many exciting things to do. It’s like a little holiday for her. She cries when she has to leave.”

Together, we’re creating inclusive spaces where every child can play, learn, and flourish.

We were delighted to recently award a grant to Congleton Bath House and Physic Garden, supporting their exciting new Garden Stories project 🌿

Two of our trustees, John Davies and Brenda Cook, had the pleasure of visiting the garden to present the cheque in person, meeting with trustees and volunteers and seeing first-hand the fantastic work taking place in this unique community space.

This summer, the Garden Stories project will bring the site’s rich history to life through a family-friendly programme of storytelling, games, and hands-on activities running at weekends. It’s a wonderful way to connect people of all ages with Congleton’s heritage in a fun and engaging way.

The project is now looking for volunteers to get involved, whether that’s helping to research the site’s history, developing creative activities, or supporting the programme in the garden. No previous experience is needed, and full training will be provided.

We’re proud to support initiatives like this that bring our community together and celebrate local history.

It’s great to see such a variety of initiatives benefiting from these grants, all contributing to our community in different ways.

We’re looking forward to our next meeting at the end of April to hear how these projects are progressing and to review the next round of applications.
