Smile Group 🌼 Perinatal Mental Health Charity
💜 Supporting families in Cheshire East
☕️ Peer support groups | Home visits | Talk Therapy | Family sessions What to expect?

Smile was set up by two mums in Cheshire East wanting to provide help and guidance to families experiencing perinatal mental health challenges. We offer a blend of services including peer support groups, talk therapy, home visits and monthly family sessions. We want to reach out to families who are suffering in silence and offer them signposting and support when they need it most. Peer support ses

sions (currently fortnightly) all run10am-12pm:
*Monday- Oak tree family hub, Crewe
*Tuesday-Sandbach Children's Centre
*Wednesday- Congleton Family Hub
*Friday- Ash Grove family hub, Macclesfield

Who can join? You can be referred into the service via a health professional or self refer either before the group or on the day. All sessions are drop in, there is no need to book. All groups are welcoming, warm trusted spaces and provide an opportunity for you to meet other parents who are going through a similar experience. Can you bring older children? You can bring your baby/ toddler up until the age of 3 (this is relaxed a bit more in school holidays)

Family sessions
Partners are welcome to join any of our groups. However, we also run a monthly family session at Ruby's Fund in Congleton which is a lovely opportunity to bring the entire family. Other services
*We offer counselling and 1:1 Support via referral, contact us on [email protected] for more info.
*If you are in need of support but don't feel up to attending a group just yet, get in touch and one our Wellbeing Practitioners can arrange a home visit if appropriate. The page is not monitored 24/7. Please seek care from the Crisis team or advice from Samaritans if urgent support is needed. We do offer a free service but as a charity are always looking at ways to fundraise and donations are always welcome. www.paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/3234356

We’re going to be a little vulnerable ❤️

We’ve put so much love into creating this event, but ticket sales are currently much slower than we’d hoped.

We’d really love to make this event happen, so if you’re able to, please help us spread the word by sharing our latest post with anyone who may be interested.

As a small charity, every ticket sold genuinely makes a difference, not just for the event itself, but for the families we support.

🎟 £25 standard ticket
❤️ £15 for beneficiaries

As Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 comes to an end, we wanted to share these beautiful messages you all sent in for any new parents who are feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or not quite themselves right now.

They’re a powerful reminder of the comfort that comes from peer support and the difference it makes to speak to someone who understands what you’re going through 💜

TW: baby loss

For today’s theme, "Voices of Loss & Healing", we want to share a heartfelt thank you to Sharon Coaker for so generously sharing her story with us. Sharon lost her son Leo 11 years ago, and spoke with us about her experience of loss and keeping Leo’s memory alive.

In Sharon’s words:
“Today we focus on baby loss and a reminder to hold space for all mothers, whatever motherhood looks like, including those whose babies are not here, and who carry their memory in their heart always.”

Thank you, Sharon. We are truly grateful for your openness in sharing something so deeply personal. By doing so, you help others feel a little less alone in their own journey. 💛

TW: Baby loss

A heartfelt thank you to Sharon from footprintsbabyloss for sharing her guidance on how to support someone through baby loss and what to say (and not to say) during such a difficult time.

Often people want to help but simply don’t know the right words or how best to show up for someone, so this guidance is hugely valuable in enabling more compassionate and supporting conversations.

Thank you Sharon for taking the time to share your experience with us.

MMHAW26: Jars of Joy ✨

This week at our peer support groups, parents have been creating “Jars of Joy”, filled with positive messages, gentle reminders, and affirmations to come back to on the harder days.

It’s a simple little thing, but it can be really helpful when things feel a bit overwhelming.

Some of the lovely affirmations:

💛 “You are uniquely you, don’t compare yourself to others”
💛 “The hard moments and days will pass”
💛 “You are doing an incredible job, even on the hard days”

MMHAW26: Voices of Change ⭐

Today, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible work of the Hearts & Minds Partnership, a partnership we were proud to co-found alongside Acacia Family Support and Bluebell. The Hearts & Minds Partnership is a thriving community of grassroots perinatal mental health services, committed to sharing, learning, and creating a stronger collective voice for our sector.

At the heart of real change is lived experience. We see every day how powerful it is when parents share their stories, professionals push for better systems, and communities come together to create more compassionate, connected support around pregnancy, birth, loss, and early parenthood.

The work of Hearts & Minds continues to champion the idea that meaningful perinatal care must be shaped with families, not just for them. By amplifying voices and bringing together grassroots organisations, clinicians, researchers, and policymakers, lasting change becomes possible.

The Hearts & Minds team works tirelessly to challenge stigma, advocate for equity, and help ensure families feel heard, supported, and seen, and at Smile Group, we’re proud to stand alongside them 💜

MMHAW26: Voices of Care 💜

Today’s theme highlights the vital collaboration between families and professionals, including midwives, health visitors, GPs, and the voluntary sector.

A simple way to think about this is like a jigsaw puzzle. Each service is an important piece on its own, offering valuable support and expertise. But when those pieces come together, the picture becomes stronger and more complete.

Support will look different for every family, and many new parents may not need wider services around them. But when extra support is needed, it’s so important that care feels joined up and centred around the family’s needs.

We’re fortunate to work alongside great teams across Cheshire East and by working together, we can help prevent parents from feeling lost in the system. It means healthcare, social care, and community support are connected, rather than families having to navigate everything alone.
