Could you be part of the next chapter at CLS?

A wee personal message from Louise, our Operations Director:

Having spent many years volunteering on Boards myself, I know first-hand that being a Board member is about much more than meetings, policies and paperwork.

It’s a chance to give something back, meet some brilliant people, learn new things and be part of an organisation that is making a difference in its community. And you definitely don’t need to arrive knowing all the answers!

That’s why I’d really encourage anyone in West Dunbartonshire who has ever thought about joining a Board to have a look at our latest feature in Clydesider.

We’re looking for new people to join the Community Links Scotland Board. No previous Board experience is needed, and training and support are provided. We’re looking for people with different skills, experiences and perspectives who care about their local community and would like to get involved.

Our current Board members talk in the article about how rewarding they’ve found the experience, from giving something back to using skills built over a lifetime in a completely different setting.

You probably have more to offer than you think, and you might be surprised by how much you get back too.

🥌 Good luck to the junior girls curling team sponsored by Community Links Scotland! 🥌

Last week, the team took part in the Scottish Curling Junior Championship Qualifiers, their very first competition together as a newly formed squad made up of players from Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire.

Taking on experienced opposition, including two national teams, was a big challenge, but simply reaching this stage and competing together is a fantastic achievement.

We are incredibly proud to support these talented young women as they build confidence, friendships and teamwork, both on and off the ice. Their commitment, determination and support for one another reflect many of the values that matter most to us at Community Links Scotland.

The scores only tell part of the story. Watching young people challenge themselves, grow in confidence and represent their communities so well is something worth celebrating.

Well done to the team and good luck for the rest of the season. We're delighted to be part of your journey.

Poverty can happen to anyone.

Many of the people we support are working, raising families, managing long-term health conditions or facing unexpected life changes.

Challenge Poverty Week encourages us to challenge stereotypes and focus on solutions.

Through free local energy advice, we help people maximise their income, reduce energy costs and access the support available to them.

Fuel poverty is about more than energy bills.

It affects physical health, mental wellbeing, family life and financial security. It can mean living in a cold home, falling behind on payments, or feeling anxious every time a bill arrives.

Our Energy Advisors work directly with local households, providing practical help to reduce costs, manage debt and access financial support.
Everyone deserves a warm, safe home.

Ever considered becoming a Board Member?

Community Links Scotland is looking for new Management Board members in West Dunbartonshire. No previous board experience is needed, just an interest in local people, places and community-led change. Training and support are provided, with around six meetings a year in Clydebank.

Our Chairperson Sephton MacQuire and Treasurer Anne McQueen share what they enjoy about the role, from giving something back to using their experience in a new way.

🌿 A Month of Health and Wellbeing! 🌿

It has been another busy and positive month for the Healthy Pathways programme at Community Links Scotland. Participants have been getting involved in a range of activities designed to support positive mental health and wellbeing and meaningful social connections.

Over the past month, 60 participants have taken part in:

• A menopause information session in conjunction with the Menopause Warriors
• Creative wellbeing sessions, such as crochet, needle felting, mosaic candle holders and sewing sessions at Community Links Scotland!
• Creative wellbeing sessions at Dalmuir Library including making mosaic coasters, diamond painting and paper quilling!
• Outreach creative tasters sessions at Centre81, the Salvation army Clydebank, Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels and at Hope Community Church.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part and massive thanks to our funders The National Lottery Community Fund, who have made the project possible.

🤝 Working Together to Support Our Community
Community Links Scotland are delighted to be partnering with Menopause Warriors Scotland to deliver an informative and supportive Menopause Information Session.

This session is designed to provide practical information, increase understanding, and create a welcoming space to talk openly about menopause. Whether you're experiencing menopause yourself, supporting a loved one, or simply want to learn more, everyone is welcome.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Beginners Sewing Session! 🧵✨

It was great to see some new faces learning the basics and building confidence in sewing! Thanks also to our amazing volunteers Sammy and Sue for your patience, instruction and for keeping us on track with our bunting!
