CLACTON AIRSHOW CAR PARK FEE

An enquiry has come in via Messenger querying the fee for car parking this year. Unfortunately Messenger isn't responding, so the query can only be answered here and although the fee has been held at £10 for the past two or three years, the 2026 rate has not been set as yet.
There is a planning meeting due to take place on 1st June, so hopefully the fee will be set then.

Remembering VE Day in Clacton.

Friday 8th May saw many of the town, including our own President, attending the war memorial to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the end of WW2 in Europe.
Let us never forget all the sacrifices made during those terrible years.

A warm welcome today to Heather from Signpost.

Today we welcomed Heather Disberry from the Signpost charity (Tendring Branch) to speak to us about the work they do with individuals in order that they can progress their lives.
Her first point was that the current major issue is I.T. especially within the younger age range 16-24 years, who invariably only know how to use their phones and not computers that jobs are centred around.
The provision of Employability Support Workshops are one part of the work, providing courses for 16-24 yrs, 25+ and more recently 50+.
To this end Heather referred to a man of 63 yrs who we will call 'X', living alone and a widower. X saw no future until Signpost stepped in and gave him the tools to get a job that not only suited him, but that he loved doing.
Other tools within the Signpost toolbox are various skills acquisition courses plus a Crisis & Community Support element.
So, just 2 stats to close with: 493 new registrations and 2,400 'engagements' in the past 12 months Impressive!

A BIT SPARSE ON POSTS?
Maybe so, but in the background we are quietly working on the coming year and how we can raise those funds that allow us to make donations to our local charities.
Our first major "Plan" will be for Clacton Airshow 2026 on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th August. We have held an initial discussion with Tendring Council for whom we operate the Official Car Park on their behalf and we are now looking to hold a further meeting that reflects and hopefully resolves the surrounding roads and traffic flow issues.
What we are really desperate for NOW, is some new Rotary members or even Friends of Rotary, as this sort of event relies heavily on helpers.
To bring in a little bit of a smile, during Thursday's lunch there was a tapping sound coming from outside the building, which turned out to be the guy in the photo hitting the glass panel with its beak! Not the sort of member who would give, merely take and so he was sent on his way.
When we have information that can be released about Airshow car parking it will be featured on this page and also on our daughter club of The Rotary Club of Clacton Jubilee's page, so please do keep checking both.

Our guest speakers continue and today we welcomed Maeve Borges from the Youth Enquiry Service.
During her presentation Maeve explained how the charity, of which she is the CEO, helps young people who come to, or are referred to them, with a variety of personal problems.
After her presentation and a short Q&A, President Rob presented Maeve with a donation of £250 towards the charity's work.
Photos include the presentation to Maeve and then two PowerPoint pieces from her presentation, the first outlining the services provided and the second being of some actual feedback from recipients who received counselling.
