*** 🎃💀👻 Halloween Party Night 👻💀🎃 ***

We’ve been away the last week or so on various adventures, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t have a haunting evening before we left!

Cadets (and staff!) got involved with the night’s festivities - including Musical Chairs, Apple Bobbing, Mummy Wrapping and Pumpkin Carving…and the all-important Halloween Pizza!

Safe to say all involved had a spook-tacular evening, and some awards were even given out for the best costumes to Cdt Manvell (Raven) and Cdt Nicholls (Darth Vader)!

All in all, a great way to spend a Halloween party night…the scariest thing being how good quality a digital camera can still be in 2026!! 📸

*** 🌺🫡 Poppy Selling and Launch - 24th October 2026 🫡🌺 ***

As we get into the end of October and start looking towards Remembrance Services and Parades, our cadets and staff recently assisted Royal Wootton Bassett’s Royal British Legion branch in starting the Poppy Appeal over the weekend, following our assistance in placing poppies on the High Street!

A mixture of our older cadets and our newer intake joined forces on Saturday to help with poppy selling on the High Street - despite the weather not playing ball post-Storm Austen, our personnel were still all smiles! We’ll be doing more Poppy Selling soon in the month prior to our participation in the upcoming Remembrance Services; but overall, a massive well done to all our cadets and staff who turned up on Saturday to brave it all!

*** 🗣️🪡👋 Public Speaking, Sewing and Welcomes👋🪡🗣️ ***

Monday night saw us incredibly busy on Sqn, with various things taking place all at once! Cdt Samaranayake gave a presentation to our new intake on his achievements so far in RAFAC since starting at the Sqn last year - featuring his Road Marching, DofE, and flying achievements! This gets him one step closer on the road to a Method of Instruction qualification, and allows him to practice his Public Speaking skills - something the new cadets will hopefully also achieve in the coming months! 👏🥾✈️

While the presentation was ongoing, our older cadets worked on their Wear and Care of uniform as we approach Remembrance, preparing everything ready for parades in our local community. Stations were led by the NCO team for Beret Moulding, Ties and Sewing, Shoe Polishing and Ironing - a very busy night already! 👞🪡👔

We did also have a visitor on Monday evening - our Wing Chaplain, Rev. Selby-Boothroyd came down to undertake one of his very important roles…helping us to formally welcome our new cadet intake into RAFAC! After break, the new cadets formed up inside and repeated the Cadet Promise in front of our older cadets, officially becoming members of our Squadron and the wider RAF Air Cadet organisation! Welcome on board everyone - we cannot wait to see what you achieve with us! 🤝 👋

*** 🦈💭💸 Cadet Shark Tank 💸💭🦈 ***

Taking on the challenge of how best to show off our Skills for Life this , what better way to showcase these than with a Cadet Shark Tank evening? Organised by Cpl Pocock, our cadets were split into teams amongst the Cadet SNCOs (and Sgt Lennie!) and each given a briefing.

They were given a budget of £500 to spend on a set list of materials, to then pitch to the “Sharks” - our JNCO team - and an audience made up of Fg Off Maxted, CI Higgins, and FS Wood, with the possibility of further funding being allocated if successful!

All teams were in receipt of an award at the end, and the evening served as a great opportunity to develop teamwork, thinking outside the box, and public speaking skills! Congratulations to all award winners:
- Best Pitch - Sgt Lennie
- Most Creative Idea - CWO Dee-Cutler
- Most Financially Viable - FS Stewart
- Best Teamwork - Sgt Aplin
- Overall Shark Tank Winner - FS Cox

Thank you again to Cpl Pocock for leading the activity, and to the JNCO team for being such amazing panel members!

While we are joining in on the First Aid training later this week for our newer intake, we wanted to take a moment to highlight two of our former CWOs at Lyneham who demonstrated, and continue to demonstrate, amazing First Aid skills following their time with us in RAFAC!

During a Poppy Selling event with the Squadron in Royal Wootton Bassett a couple of years ago, former CWO Leo Jones put his First Aid training to good use when a member of the public fell ill and collapsed in the High Street, performing CPR while an ambulance was contacted to take over. For this, he received the Commandant’s Challenge Coin to commend him for his incredible efforts - a well-deserved commendation for Leo indeed!

For those who watch Channel 4’s “999: On The Front Line”, this season’s spotlight is on the South West Ambulance Service - and for our squadron, it features a familiar face in the control room! When former CWO Macy Stephens left our squadron to go on to university, she started her training to become an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and Paramedic, putting her skills and training from RAFAC to good use!

The skills taught in the Air Cadets by our trained staff teams can be life-saving, and truly go to show how crucial these skills can be in outside circumstances: at work, at home or at school!

As we celebrate day 3 of , we had to shout out our amazing Staff Team on Sqn…or rather, the Cadets did! Our volunteer staff team help out across various activities with the Sqn, and the Cadets wanted to highlight them all!

Some flying achievements as well for Cdt Osan, who took his first flight last week at 2AEF! Joining cadets from Ferndown Sqn, Cdts Osan, Samaranayake and North all had the opportunity to achieve new heights in their flying training - with thanks to Sgt Lennie for taking them on this day!

A massive well done to our cadets who took part in this - Cdts Whipp, Sheppard, Williams and Samaranayake all worked hard behind the scenes to pull this together, and smashed it out of the ballpark! With thanks as well to our very own CI Higgins for being one of the supporting staff on the event - great job all! 👏🚶🥾

***💪👏🤩 PROMOTION TIME🤩👏💪***

Not one, but two promotions last night for two of our older NCOs - earning a crown on their chevrons, the dynamic duo of Sgt Stewart and Sgt Cox were promoted last night to Flt Sgts!

Flt Sgt Cox has recently been getting stuck in with work to support our newest intake of cadets, along with leading our Sport Nights with Cpl Pocock and showing his hidden talent as a sports commentator! Meanwhile, Flt Sgt Stewart is a familiar face to many across the wider Wing as he assists with the DTC(I) course regularly, and is also supporting our friends at 1244 Sqn!

Congratulations both - a well-deserved promotion indeed! 👏👑😎
