Homelessness isn't solved overnight. It takes time to rebuild a life.
Despite working full time as a delivery driver, B ended up living in his van as he couldn't meet the cost of private renting. Things got worse when the windscreen was damaged - B couldn't afford the repair and so couldn't work. Unsurprisingly, his mental health suffered, and was left feeling vulnerable and anxious about the future.
B heard about Stonepillow by chance, but he was very cautious at first - just accessing the shower and facilities at the day hub.
The Stonepillow team understand the importance of treating everyone who comes to us as individual - working to build up trust, ensuring the person has choices, and being there consistently.
Over time, B was able to trust the team more and more. This meant we could support him through the process of applying for housing, but also meant he felt able to speak more openly about his mental health difficulties and access medical help.
B is now living in Stonepillow supported accommodation, providing the stability and security needed to focus on his recovery and future goals. He's actively involved in our lived experience steering group - contributing valuable feedback and helping to shape our services. B also attends the weekly art group, which has become an important source of wellbeing, creativity and confidence.
B is now looking forward to a brighter future, feeling hopeful, empowered and motivated to continue moving forward. He is determined to use his experiences to support and inspire others facing similar challenges.
This would not have been possible without the long-term support provided by our team, alongside the stability of safe accommodation.
That's why our community of regular supporters is so important.
A regular monthly gift provides reliable, flexible income that helps Stonepillow plan ahead, respond to changing needs and continue supporting people long-term as they rebuild their lives.
