Families Infocus - Essex Supporting families of children/young people with any disability/special need (age 0-25) in Essex

Families InFocus (Essex) is a parent-led registered charity committed to helping improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children with disabilities/special needs (aged 0-25) across Essex and their families. We offer a unique service providing holistic independent support to any family who has a child/children with any disability/special need, requiring advice, information and support, pa

rticularly at times of change, challenge and crisis. We understand the distressing emotions, frustrations and challenges that parents and carers face in bringing up their special child, and aim to give caring, practical and confidential support when needed. We also aim to empower parents to do what is right for them and their children, to make the best use of available services, to receive appropriate support for their child and to address obstacles to achieving this.

🤩We’re really happy to share a new Preparing for Adulthood roadmap for neurodivergent young people who aren’t accessing social care.

We shaped this together with the Partnership Delivery Team in South Essex and SNAP Charity, with wider partners involved in the early stages of the conversations. We used the real questions families ask us at events and through our feedback wall to guide what went into the roadmap.

It brings together the key things families often want clearer guidance on as their young person moves from early teens up to age 18, including education choices, health transitions, independence skills and money matters. It’s a simple, one page guide you can keep at home and use as a quick reminder of what to think about at different ages. It also links with the Post 16 Guide and Events Calendar if you want to look into any of the topics in more detail. You can find these here: https://www.essexopportunities.co.uk/post-16-parents-carers-guide/post-16-parents-carers-guide

We hope it helps things feel a little easier to navigate. 💛
