Recovery is personal, but it doesn’t have to be lonely.

Connection can look different for everyone. It might be talking to someone who understands, trying a group, rebuilding relationships or simply finding a place where you feel welcome.

Being heard, supported and accepted can help recovery grow — especially on the difficult days.

Across Lancashire, Inspire offers one-to-one support, groups and recovery communities where you can take things at your own pace.

The school bags are back by the door, the roads are busier and the evenings are beginning to draw in.

For some of us, getting back into a routine feels welcome. For others, the change of pace can make stress, quieter evenings or certain habits feel more noticeable.

Perhaps drinking has become the main way you switch off. Maybe drug use is taking up more time, money or headspace than it used to.

Our latest blog isn’t about changing everything overnight. It’s about taking stock without judging yourself, choosing one manageable step and remembering that support is available before things reach crisis point.

Recovery doesn’t always begin with a huge change.

Sometimes it starts with one honest conversation. One appointment. One safer choice. Trying a group. Cutting down. Or simply deciding to try again.

However small it might feel, that step still counts.

This Recovery Month, we’re celebrating recovery as it really happens — one person, one choice and one day at a time.

If you’re in Lancashire and thinking about making a change, Inspire is here to listen without judgement or pressure.

Your health matters too. 💜

From September, we’re opening a new Wednesday evening health clinic at Inspire Burnley, giving people another opportunity to look after their physical and mental health alongside the support they already receive from us.

🕒 Every Wednesday, 3pm–7pm
📍 Inspire Burnley, 37–41 Westgate, Burnley, BB11 1RY

You can drop in for support including BBV testing, blood pressure and other physical health checks, wound care, pregnancy testing, harm reduction advice, naloxone and testing strips, and conversations around mental health, pain management and the impact substances may be having on your health.

We’ll also be able to arrange additional health checks including blood tests, Hep B vaccinations, drug and alcohol screening and ECGs, where these are planned with your Recovery Worker, nurse or Inspire medic.

There’ll be a nurse on site, alongside our healthcare team and recovery volunteers — and yes, there’ll be brews and biscuits too. ☕🍪

No big fuss. Just another way we can help you keep an eye on your health and get support when you need it.

Recovery doesn’t have one look, one route or one starting point.

It can begin with an honest conversation. Making one safer choice. Turning up to a group. Rebuilding confidence. Cutting down. Stopping. Or finding the courage to try again.

Throughout September, we’re marking Recovery Month by sharing recovery in real life across Lancashire — the people, places, support and everyday moments that help change happen.

There’s no judgement and no pressure to have everything figured out. Whatever your goal, Inspire Lancashire will meet you where you’re at and help you take your next step.

If you’re thinking about making a change, or you’re worried about someone else, confidential support is available.

If you experience chest pain, severe breathlessness, collapse or become seriously unwell after using co***ne, call 999.

Today is Overdose Awareness Day.

Synthetic drugs, including nitazenes, can be much stronger than expected and may look the same as other substances. This can increase the risk of accidental overdose.

If you use drugs, you can reduce risk by:

• trying not to use alone
• carrying naloxone
• starting low and going slow
• using one drug at a time
• calling 999 in an emergency

For advice around staying safer, naloxone, cutting down or stopping, Inspire Lancashire is here to help.

Use co***ne? Take breaks.
Giving your body time to recover matters.

Repeatedly using co***ne over a short period can put increasing strain on your body. Taking breaks, slowing down and recognising when you’ve had enough can help reduce harm.

And if you’re finding it difficult to cut down or stop, you don’t have to manage it alone.

With illicit benzodiazepines, you may not always know exactly what you’re taking.

Benzodiazepines such as diazepam can cause heavy sedation, memory problems and loss of coordination. Tablets bought online or on the street can vary in strength and may contain substances you weren’t expecting.

The biggest danger comes from mixing benzos with other depressants, particularly opioids and alcohol, because their effects on breathing can combine.

In 2024/25, 4,161 adults starting treatment in England reported benzodiazepine problems, up from 3,872 the year before.

If you’re using benzos regularly, suddenly stopping can also cause withdrawal problems, so it’s worth getting professional advice rather than trying to manage it alone.

💜 Whether you’re worried about your own use or somebody else’s, you can speak to Inspire Lancashire confidentially.
