Wild male Budin has been a regular visitor to Sepilok since early last year.

His visits are a reminder that Sepilok is more than a rehabilitation centre. It is also forest habitat used by wild orangutans.

Agop arrived at Sepilok as a tiny orphan after being found alone on agricultural land. She has come a long way since then and is now an adventurous young orangutan who loves exploring, trying new foods and playing with her friends.

Adopting Agop helps fund her care at Sepilok, as well as our wider orangutan conservation work.

Why protecting orangutan habitat matters.

Rehabilitation is vital, but it cannot solve the problem of habitat loss. In many ways, it is dealing with the consequences after something has already gone wrong.

We recently shared our thoughts with The Star Malaysia on the complex pressures facing orangutans, why protecting healthy forests matters to people as well as wildlife and why long-term conservation depends on working together.

Once a species is lost, we do not get a second chance.
