Part 2 of our walking weekend - photographic warning, look away if queasy!

We made the difficult decision this morning not to continue our walk to Bath, though fear not, we've got another date organised at the end of August to walk Wookey to Bath.

Our injuries aren't pretty after yesterday but what do you expect after 26 miles and almost 70,000 steps! (High five to us πŸ™Œ)

Our feet are hurting, our legs and back are tender, we've got sun burn, cuts and an interesting rash on our ankles has appeared and whilst we're willing in spirit, our bodies are an "absolute no"!!! We've also got to think about the rest of our training this week which needs to continue no matter what.

So, we're home and resting for today but we'll be back to it tomorrow.

Thank you for all the fantastic messages of support and kind donations received yesterday, was so lovely and really kept us going.

Part 1 walk - Bridgwater to Wookey Hole

Glorious start to our walking element of challenge 2026.
We headed out at 7am with our trusty backpacks and Google maps! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

The journey to shapwick heath was full of lots of chat and laughter.

Things did take a more dramatic turn when we attempted to follow a path through the heath. Battling long grass and sharp reeds, we realised 2 miles in… we’ve gone wrong πŸ˜‘ About turn and back tracking the 2 miles through the grass… we were tired and beaten up a bit. Still we had the sun shining and the snacks needing eating, so we pressed on!

We stopped for a quick lunch break at Avalon Marshes Centre (beautiful place to visit if you are in the area) and grabbed and ice cream for the road.

Onward trek to Wookey Hole πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

Walking through gorgeous quaint villages of Mendip, we finally made it to Wookey Hole hotel for a well earned dinner, bath and bed!

As you know, we've got a 300km cycle in September 🚴

Just been looking at our route and got a favour to ask...

Would anyone know of somewhere good to stay in Torquay and/or Liskeard? Ideally we're looking for somewhere that has a restaurant either as part of the hotel for dinner/breakfast or within a 5/10 minute walk (we're going to have seriously sore legs by this point! πŸ˜‚).

Also looking for a good deal! Trying to keep costs as low as we can as we've got more than 1 event requiring an overnight stay.

We've not had much luck with hotels for our walk, some very disappointing customer service from a very well known hotel chain, so your recommendations would be really welcomed.

It's been an interesting start to our training this time...in some respects, we're doing fantastic with our swimming distance and getting in 2 practice cycles a week to build up for September's 300km cycle but in other respects, due to my foot injury (two I might add, one impacting the other just to really rub insult into injury) the running has been on hold for the last 5 months!

But...I've now been given the go ahead to start running so of course, thought it deserved some gorgeous running trainers that will hopefully support my foot recovery!

Continuing with good news, we've had our first few donations! Β£620!!! Just amazing! Thank you. Receiving your support gives us so much encouragement.

Plus, it's only 2 weeks until our 40 mile walk! And we received more support from a lovely local hotel, Wookey Hole Hotel, who have offered us a great overnight deal πŸ’œ Thank you for your generosity πŸ₯°
