Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is an emergency service staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by donation. We operate principally in mid Wales, working from the Brecon Beacons National Park north to Machynlleth, from the Welsh borderland westward, through mid Wales, to the Ceredigion coast. Our work is not restricted to mountain and wilderness search and rescue for climbers and hill walkers: our skills are also deployed by the police to search for vulnerable or missing persons in the community where we can employ our specialist medical and rescue techniques.

A huge thank you to the Audrey Tyler Foundation!

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team would like to express our sincere thanks to the Audrey Tyler Foundation for their generous grant, which has enabled us to purchase new uniforms for our volunteer team members.

The Audrey Tyler Foundation supports projects and organisations that benefit the local community in Brecon, helping to improve the lives of those who live in the area.

As a volunteer mountain rescue team, we rely on the generosity of organisations like the Audrey Tyler Foundation to help us continue our work.

We are extremely grateful for their support and for recognising the importance of our volunteers and the work they do.

BMRT was called to assist a woman who had sustained an ankle injury on the descent from Pen y Fan.

Our team attended alongside paramedics. The woman’s ankle was splinted before she was secured onto a stretcher and carried to safety.

Around 20 team members attended the call out, bringing together the people, skills and equipment needed to assist her.

We wish the woman all the best for a speedy recovery.”

Cafodd y tîm ei alw i helpu menyw oedd wedi anafu ei phigwrn wrth ddod i lawr Pen y Fan.

Roedd y tîm yn cydweithio â pharafeddygon ar yr achlysur hwn. Rhoddwyd pigwrn y fenyw dan sylw mewn sblint cyn ei gosod ar stretsier a’i chludo i leoliad diogel.

Roedd tua 20 o aelodau’r tîm yn bresennol ar yr alwad, gan ddod ynghyd y bobl, y sgiliau a’r offer oedd eu hangen i’w helpu.

Call Out 4 October 2026
📍 Golden Grove, near Llandeilo

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist with the search for a high-risk missing person in the Golden Grove and Gelli Aur Country Park area.

Team members worked alongside Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, Dyfed-Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, searching woodland throughout the day.

The missing person was not located during Friday’s search. As searches were due to resume the following day, a member of the public recognised the missing person at the roadside after seeing a police social media appeal and alerted Dyfed-Powys Police.

The missing person was subsequently taken to hospital by the emergency services.

This incident highlights the important role that sharing official missing-person appeals can play in supporting searches and helping to bring them to a safe conclusion.
Thank you to all agencies and personnel involved in the search.

Daeth galwad yn gofyn i Dîm Achub Mynydd Aberhonddu helpu gyda’r gwaith o chwilio am unigolyn risg-uchel yn ardal Gelli-aur a Pharc Gwledig Gelli Aur.

Bu’r tîm yn cydweithio â Thîm Achub Mynydd Gorllewin y Bannau, Heddlu Dyfed Powys a Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub Canolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru, gan chwilio am yr unigolyn mewn tir coediog drwy gydol y dydd.

Ni lwyddwyd i ddod o hyd i’r unigolyn coll ddydd Gwener a’r bwriad oedd parhau â’r gwaith chwilio'r diwrnod canlynol. Yn y cyfamser, gwelodd aelod o’r cyhoedd yr unigolyn dan sylw wrth ymyl y ffordd ar ôl gweld apêl gan yr heddlu ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol, a rhoi gwybod iddyn nhw.

Yn dilyn hyn, cludwyd yr unigolyn i ysbyty gan y gwasanaethau brys.

We beat the beacons wooo 🥾👏🏻💛

Yesterday challenged us to take on the Beat thr Beacons event, so we headed to Bannau Brycheiniog to tackle the 15 mile Adventure Route, and what a bloody incredible day it was and I thought documenting it was a nice little way to show you guys what it’s like to take on the event 😁!!

Beat the Beacons is an annual challenge event raising vital funds for giving you the chance to spend a day in the mountains, take on a proper challenge and explore parts of the Beacons you might not otherwise think to walk!

There are 3 routes to choose from:

🥾 Taster - 10 miles
A lower level route which is perfect for families and less experienced walkers. I would highly recommend this to help with confidence in the outdoors if you’re a solo beginner hiker and for experiencing a group event without the challenge of the elevation.

⛰️ Adventure - 15 miles
This is the route we took on. It is a more challenging route taking in some fantastic mountain scenery without hitting all the biggest peaks in the Beacons but is very much still a calf burner 😂

🏔️ Endurance - 22 miles
The ultimate challenge, taking on some of the highest points in the Bannau Brycheiniog. Similar route to the adventure but it includes Fan Y Big, Cribyn, Pen Y Fan and looping around the horseshoe walk. Something we would highly consider next year now we got the adventure certificate under our belt 👏🏻

Remember choose a route that suits your experience and fitness but there really is something for everyone.

The best part about taking part in this event, every penny raised goes directly towards Brecon Mountain Rescue, helping support their 24/7 volunteer led rescue service 🧡

If you’re looking for a new challenge for 2027, definitely get Beat the Beacons on your radar! You’ll get to explore some incredible mountains, tick off some new summits and raise money for an amazing cause at the same time.

So, which route would you take on? wants to retire to the taster route next year as the canal is his favourite place to do some fishing atm haha! 🎣

A big thank you to Christ College Brecon for their generous donation of £2,500 to Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, following this year’s Christ College Mountain Challenge (CCMC) in June.

We have supported the annual event since its inception, providing safety cover, manning checkpoints and administrative support.
We’re grateful to Christ College for their continued support and look forward to being involved in the next challenge on Saturday 22 May 2027.

On Tuesday 20 October, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team member Martin Gregory will be sharing his experiences of 35 years with the team as part of the Friends of St Mary’s Speaker Series.

Martin will be sharing his experiences of mountain rescue and the work our volunteer team does across the Brecon Beacons.

The talk takes place at 7pm, with tickets costing £10 on the door.
