A district nurse from Powys is taking on an exciting challenge next February as she heads to Spain to run the Barcelona Half Marathon in aid of Powys Health Charity.

Rhian, who works as a district nurse in Powys, explains:

“As a district nurse working in Powys, I see first-hand the difference that compassionate care and support can make to patients, families and our local communities. I’m incredibly proud to be part of the NHS and the work we do to support people in their own homes.

Running the Barcelona Half Marathon is an exciting personal challenge and a chance to give something back through Powys Health Charity. I hope to help raise awareness and support for the amazing work the charity does, making a positive difference to patients, staff and services across Powys.

I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge, representing Powys and combining my passion for running with something that means so much to me professionally.”

Jay was one of the last participants to take on the charity skydive on Sunday 11 October at GoSkydive Swansea in aid of Powys Health Charity.

Reflecting on the experience, Jay said:

"It was genuinely one of the best things I've ever done. I'll definitely be looking to do it again in the future!"

World Mental Health Day – Saturday 10th October 💚

What an incredible way to round off an amazing weekend for Powys Health Charity!

A huge congratulations to four Powys Teaching Health Board staff members, Mary, Georgina, Raychelle and Harley, who took on the Cardiff Half Marathon and absolutely smashed it!

Reflecting on her achievement, Raychelle said:

"Seventeen weeks ago, completing the Cardiff Half Marathon felt almost impossible. Training through sunshine, wind and rain built the determination and resilience I needed to reach the finish line. Crossing the finish line was one of my proudest moments. Just over a year after spinal surgery, completing 13.1 miles proved that commitment, perseverance and belief can make the impossible possible.

I could not have done it without the encouragement of friends, family and colleagues, whose support kept me going through the toughest days.

Running for Powys Health Charity gave every mile extra purpose. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and helped support a cause that makes a real difference across Powys. This medal represents not only my journey, but also the kindness and encouragement of everyone who helped me achieve something I once thought impossible. Thank you."

Together, our fantastic runners have raised nearly £2,000 for Powys Health Charity, helping us continue to support patients, staff and services across Powys.

We are incredibly proud of all four runners for their dedication, determination and outstanding achievement. Thank you to everyone who has donated and cheered them on along the way.

What an amazing event to organise and what an absolutely thrill packed day we had on Saturday 3rd October. This was our third attempt at trying to do a group sky dive, and we had 20 nervous and excited volunteers leap from a plane in aid of Powys Health Charity. The sky divers collectively managed to raise over £10,000 and this money will be used to fund new equipment, replace old equipment, patient personal needs, specialist learning and training for our staff and those little things that can make the biggest difference to the people we support.

Our Head of Charity Martin O’Brien also took part in doing a sky dive, he said

“It was like nothing I’ve ever done before and the further I get from the experience the more I feel like I want to do it all over again. It was scary, thrilling, exciting and so much fun all rolled in to one breath taking moment”. The clear blue skies allowed us to see the wonderful views of the Swansea and Gower coastline. Even though we were hurtling toward the ground at 125mph during free fall, it felt like you were motionless, allowing us to admire the beauty of the coastline”.

Thank you so much to all the 31 sky divers who have or will soon be taking to the skies in aid of Powys Health Charity. Your support for this amazing Charity is gratefully appreciated.

Thank you also to GoSkydive Swansea for hosting and supporting us throughout the day, the whole team were so calming and knowledgeable it brought comfort to everyone who was feeling nervous.

What a weekend for Powys Health Charity!

After months of anticipation, we were thrilled to finally have so many people complete their Skydive in GoSkydive Swansea on Saturday, followed by the Cardiff Half Marathon yesterday!
