The Wye & Usk Foundation is a registered charity concerned with ecology and restoring the habitat, water quality and fisheries of the rivers Wye and Usk and provides educational learning experiences in schools and wider settings. The Wye & Usk Foundation (WUF) is a registered charity concerned with ecology and, more specifically, restoring the habitat, water quality and fisheries of the rivers Wye and Usk. The Foundation is more than just a lobbying organisation: through a series of partnership projects, we raise significant sums of money to remedy problems such as habitat degradation, poor water quality and diffuse pollution, barriers to fish migration and over-exploitation of our fisheries.

This is a seasonal pass that gives you access to 8 fisheries throughout November to the end of February. You can fish for all coarse species including Pike, Barbel & Chub. You may fish any beat and up to 3 different beats each day.

Rivers naturally meander and change course over time, but occasionally it makes sense to intervene and protect a bend that’s being eroded. Louis from WUF uses a novel technique; harvesting local woody debris to repair the bank, and provide living cover for nesting birds, otters, invertebrates and fish.

The pilot for our Resilient Rivers Monnow project has officially launched.

We’ve teamed up with farmers in the upper Honddu valley, at the top of the Monnow catchment, to test Farming for Water; a project designed to help soil absorb rain, improving water quality, and reduce downstream flood risk.

After a successful feasibility phase, thanks to support from with NRW, Monmouthshire County Council, and Network Rail, we are now in the field gathering real-world data. We are grateful to UWE for their academic backing of this pilot.

But we need your help.

This proof-of-concept is majority funded by WUF. We need your support to demonstrate that this model reduces flood risk for local communities.

🐟 It’s always great to stop for a chat with passers-by when we’re out conducting our electrofishing surveys!

It’s a brilliant opportunity to share what we’re doing, talk about the health of our rivers and raise awareness of the work taking place to monitor and protect our fish populations💙

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from Afonydd Cymru and Severn Rivers Trust for a visit to two wetlands designed by the Wye & Usk Foundation. Our first visit was to the thriving Luston Integrated Constructed Wetland – built in 2022 with Herefordshire Council as the first nutrient neutrality offsetting wetland.

It was great to see how well established it is and to know that the design has held up even through the extreme dry weather we have had this year. Our other wetland site, has been designed and constructed this year, building on learnings from previous wetland projects and we're excited to see how it will look next spring/summer.

It's amazing to see how quickly diverse habitats establish when the right conditions are created, and we're looking forward to seeing how the newest wetland evolves over the next year.
