Release day for four of our young woodies. Although rescued separately, they have clearly bonded and were certainly in no rush to leave the security of our soft release aviary. They will continue to be support fed and have the freedom to come and go until they feel confident to venture further.
Our five starlings were also released together recently but weren’t quite as shy - gone in a flash! They have joined a local community of starlings and visit daily for support feeding. Lucky birds!

This juvenile great black-backed gull was found at the Somerford Industrial Estate a few weeks ago with a nasty head wound. After receiving antibiotics, plenty of fresh fish, and a safe space to regain his strength, he is looking in brilliant shape. It won't be long now until he’s ready for release. A big thank you to Joe at Superpet Ltd for rescuing this not-so-little fella, and for your ongoing support of our work!

Another deer rescue from a few weeks ago - this time a little trickier!

We received a call from a gentleman at Madeira Road car park in Bournemouth where a deer had got itself up onto the top floor of the car park and couldn’t work out how to get out. The caller had tried another rescue that specialise in deer but no answer. True to form, Dean and Marie Sheldrake lost no time in attending the scene to assess the situation.

They realised there was no way to catch the deer and the only way to help was to entice it out (and quickly as the car park was filling up). With the help of the caller they managed to lure the deer down and round onto each lower level until it reached the bottom. To add to the tension, a few times it escaped and started heading back up but was quickly diverted. Thankfully, the deer exited the car park and made its way back towards the woods where we think it came from. A happy outcome for all involved!

A big thank you to Marie Sheldrake and Dean for rescuing this beautiful young deer whose leg had become trapped after slipping on porcelain tiles at a private property in Wimborne. Luckily, it had not sustained serious injuries, but they administered some painkiller for bruising before releasing it into the nearby woods. To keep the deer calm and to prevent it from injuring itself, its legs were temporarily tied and its face covered for the short journey. It hopped off very happily back into the woods, so another successful release for Wildlife in Need!
