It will soon be time for the spooky decorations to be put away and the pumpkins that have decorated many a doorstep and front garden will need to be disposed of. Please do as SKDC suggest and put them in your food bin NOT in nature. Pumpkins are not native to our country, they develop mould very quickly and are harmful to our native wildlife. Thank you.

Samhain, All Souls Night, Day of the Dead, Halloween (All Hallows Eve). However you mark the occasion with decorations or ritual we think you'd be hard pressed to beat nature - The Death's Head Hawk Moth - Even if you don't mark the day we think you'll find it pretty impressive!! 🙂😍

MEDLARS!!
Believed to be introduced by the Romans and popular for many years, when used for fruit jelly, chutney and flavouring for gin, the Medlar is unique in that it needs to ripen off the tree - known as "bletting" before the soft sweetness of the flesh comes to the fore! We have 1kg bags of the fruit on the table at our Orchard for sale this weekend. Please leave your donations in the boxes provided - suggested £1/bag. Thank you.

If you've ever been in our Community Orchard and admired the trees, bug hotels, wildflowers and all that's on offer there then you may not know that it is a team of volunteers that have developed and maintain this beautiful space. A key part of that team was Dave Vandome. Dave's connection with nature started from his youth, and stayed with him through his career with the RAF and after that with Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, before it was called that! Dave had responsibility as a ranger and for educating younger people in its care and development. Today was a sad day for those who knew Dave as wonderful tributes were paid to him and all he's done for nature at his service today. Thank you Dave, for all your did for us. You are missed.

There has been a post in our Friends of Bourne Wood Group about the fact the Ranger's Cottage and Forestry England depot/offices off Beech Avenue and opposite the Community Orchard are for sale. It is possible to view the property on Rightmove. If you struggle to find it then set your price guide to £240,000 minimum and £250,000 maximum. It does state that the Public Right of Way will remain and access for Forestry England. We have turned off commenting on posts relating to this as at this stage and until a new owner is secured then all details are in the sale data. Forestry England are well within their rights to sell the property. The photograph is the image shown on Rightmove.
