Autism Initiatives is a registered charity providing specialist autism services in the UK, Ireland & Isle of Man. We work positively alongside autistic people, their families and carers providing specialist services tailored to each individual. Autism Initiatives was fou

nded in 1971 by Pat Minshull – a proud parent of a child with autism and an advocate for increased awareness, more understanding and better Autism-specific services within the area of Merseyside and beyond. Pat’s primary concern was in relation to her son Peter’s education and with a group of supporters she successfully raised the funds needed to purchase a property in Southport, where she founded Peterhouse School in 1973. Over time, Pat’s vision developed as her son’s needs changed with age. As Peter moved through the school and on towards adulthood, a need for adult services for people with autism became evident. After another highly successful fundraising campaign, Pat and her supporters were able to purchase premises in Crosby, Merseyside and the Petersfield Autistic Community was established in 1986. This community soon became home to Peter and a number of other young adults with Autism. To this day, Peter continues to be supported by Autism Initiatives and lives happily and fully supported not too far from his original family home. Sadly, Pat Minshull is no longer with us but her vision and passion inspires Autism Initiatives each day. We remain a parent-led charity and deliver direct services to over 3000 individuals diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Condition. Autism Initiatives are proud to be a founding member of Autism Alliance UK. This a network of organisations that provides support, information, and advocacy for autistic people and their families, while seeking to improve services, policy and practice around autism.

We're looking back at our One Vision Many Voices Knowledge Sharing Event.

Members of the staff team from all over the UK came together to discuss changes to autism Practice, Quality of Life indicators and the new AI Way, which includes:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Choice, Autonomy and Control
- Social Connections
- Identity
- Aspirations
- Home

Emma McAneaney (Regional Practice Lead, Northern Ireland) and Leone Campbell (Service Manager) spoke about autism and aspirations, exploring Quality of Life across a person's entire lifespan from childhood to adulthood and on to old age.

Thank you to Live Event Illustrator and Graphic Recorder, Anna Rickards, for creating this piece of artwork summarising their talk.

We'd like to give a big thank you to The Isle of Man Steam Packet.

They have very kindly offered us £400 in vouchers for some of the people who use our services on the island to attend a trip away to the UK.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet have also previously donated vouchers to use in our Christmas raffle.

Donations like this are hugely appreciated and enable the people who use our services to have experiences in the wider community 😊

Christine Lynch, who works as part of the team in Isle of Man, is pictured receiving the vouchers.
