When you meet to discuss Halloween, Christmas, the Gala…and somehow end up onto the World Cup too! 🎃🎄⚽️

A productive morning yesterday for our Chair Laura, who had a great natter with local councillors Councillor Thomson and Councillor Razzaq.

We discussed our plans so far to bring Blantyre a spooky Halloween event and an exciting Christmas Lights Switch-On later this year, as well as looking ahead to what we hope will be a fantastic Gala Weekend next year.

We’re very grateful for the support and encouragement we’ve received from South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture as we continue working to bring more community events to our town.

Of course, no meeting would be complete without a chat about the football!⚽

Will Scotland win the World Cup? Mo certainly thinks so, who are we to argue? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😄

Lots of exciting ideas are in the pipeline, and we can’t wait to share more with you all soon.

We’ve had a tiny sneak peek from one of the old Blantyre Gala Day videos, and wow, you’re all in for a treat! 😊

It’s been amazing watching some of the memories, faces, and community spirit from years gone by. The footage is a real reminder of what makes Blantyre such a special place.

A huge thank you to Frank Welsh for kindly loaning us the VCR, and to our resident tech wizard Derek for working his magic and bringing these old tapes back to life. 🪄💻

Who knows…you might even spot yourself, a family member, or someone you haven’t seen in years! 👀

We can’t wait to share more with you, so keep an eye on the page for more nostalgic gems from Blantyre’s past.

🎄✨ Exciting news, Blantyre! ✨🎄

We’re hoping to have the date for the Blantyre Light Switch-On confirmed very soon! 👀🎅

As we start planning, we’d LOVE to hear from the community about what kind of event you’d like to see for our amazing town ❤️

We’re thinking things like:

🎁 A Christmas market
🎤 Festive performances
🎬 A Christmas film screening
🎅 Visits from Santa and Mrs Claus
✨ And a few other fun festive surprises…
