We’d like to give a massive thank you to Bobby Mckean from The Country Shop Lanarkshire for becoming the first local business to donate to the Blantyre Community Events fund! ❤️

Your support means so much to us, especially as we work hard to put together a fantastic Blantyre Christmas Lights Switch-On for our community. 🎅✨

We’ve had a couple of unexpected costs recently, which have unfortunately taken some money from the funds we had earmarked for the Christmas Lights Switch-On. So, we’re putting a little shout-out to our amazing local business community.

We’re currently looking for local businesses who would be willing to sponsor some of the essentials that help make the event happen, including:

🛍️ MARKET STALL APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED!

A huge thank you to everyone who applied to have a stall at this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On, we’ve had a fantastic response! ❤️

We’ll now be working our way through all applications and will be in touch with applicants within the next week with the outcome and next steps.

Mystery Container: CASE CLOSED 🔎😂

Well…BCE has officially opened the Mystery Container! 😂

And what can we say? There were some VERY interesting discoveries…

👀 Some questionable clothing, including one jacket that we’re pretty sure was previously worn by The Artist Formerly Known as Prince. 👑😂

🪑 LOADS of chairs, because apparently you can never have too many chairs!

🌧️☀️ And our personal favourite…the box that sums up Scotland perfectly: RAIN PONCHOS AND SUN CREAM SITTING SIDE BY SIDE. 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

You genuinely couldn’t make it up.

A massive thank you to Ga Ree (our newest recruit!), Maureen Skeffington Chalmers and Rose Lee for helping us get stuck into the mystery and uncover its treasures. ❤️

🎤 WE STILL NEED TALENT! 🎤

We’ve extended the closing date for our Live at Livvies Junior Talent Show because we’re not quite ready to give up on you lot yet! 😂

We really don’t want to have to ask Derek to get his old band back together… 🎸

And you definitely don’t want to hear Laura and Shannon murdering a karaoke classic on stage. Trust us. We’re doing this for the community. 😂🎤

So, if you can sing, dance, play an instrument, perform magic, tell jokes, juggle, do something weird and wonderful or basically entertain a crowd — WE WANT YOU!

Whether they love to sing, dance, play an instrument, perform magic, tell jokes, cheer, recite poetry, or have another special talent, we’d love to hear from them!

🌞🌑 Getting ready for tomorrow’s solar eclipse! 🌑🌞

If, like us here at BCE, you’re a wee bit unorganised and forgot to order your eclipse glasses in time…don’t panic! 😂

Here’s a simple way to make your own pinhole projector at home so you can safely watch the eclipse with the kids. 🔭✨

We’re looking for a hair braids/wraps stallholder to join us at Live at Livvies on Saturday 22nd August 2026 at the David Livingstone Centre. 💕✨

We had someone lined up for this one, but unfortunately they can no longer make the date, so we’re hoping someone else can come to the rescue! 🙌

📦 Who knows what’s lurking in the mystery container…? 👀

Rumour has it there could be hidden treasures… long-forgotten decorations…enough bunting to wrap around Blantyre twice…or maybe just lots and lots of boxes! 😂

We have a storage container full of items inherited from our predecessors, Blantyre Community Committee, and we’re looking for a few brave volunteers to help us solve the mystery.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it!:
