Uddingston Community Council recently reported two damaged parking notice poles in the area to South Lanarkshire Council.

Some of these are rusted, damaged, or lying on the ground and could become a hazard, so please take care around them until they are made safe.

If you spot damaged signs, street furniture, potholes, lighting faults, or anything else needing attention, please report it directly to South Lanarkshire Council so it can be logged.

Deanbrae Street Repairs Update

Concerns were raised at our May meeting about the fence and grassed area at Deanbrae Street following the fire-damaged property works.

West of Scotland Housing Association has advised that site works should be completed by the end of this month.
They have confirmed they are aware of the missing fence section and have recently confirmed to the owner that it will be reinstated. The ground will also be inspected, and if further work is needed to restore the grassed area, the contractor will address it.

Uddingston Community Council will escalate the matter if the deadline is not met.

Parking in Uddingston

Parking was discussed again at our May meeting, including concerns around Bellshill Road, Porterswell, Main Street, the station area and wider parking capacity in Uddingston.

Residents from the Porterswell area have raised concerns about nearby business employees increasingly using spaces previously available to residents.

There were also concerns that proposed time limits in Bellshill Road car park could affect residents who currently use it as residential parking.

We are encouraging residents to read the proposal and complete the Bellshill Road Car Park survey:

Parking enforcement issues can be reported to South Lanarkshire Council's Parking Unit:

Following complaints from residents, UCC has again asked South Lanarkshire Council to confirm whether bookings that breach the floodlighting restrictions at the artificial pitches next to Uddingston Grammar School have been cancelled and whether the existing restrictions are now being enforced.

The current planning condition states that floodlighting of the synthetic sports pitch is limited to between 9am and 6pm.

We are awaiting a response and will share any update when available.

Uddingston Community Centre Improvements

At our May meeting, Brian Leckie gave an update on improvements taking place at Uddingston Community Centre.

Work includes a new fire system, smoke and heat detectors, a defibrillator inside the building, a large screen for events, and planned signage improvements.

The main hall is now estimated to be in use around 33% of the time, with other rooms around 10% and increasing. Fridays are currently quieter.

Tunnock's Extension Planning Application

At our May meeting, residents discussed planning application P/26/0440 for an extension to the third floor over the flat roof area at Tunnock's, 34 Old Mill Road.
Uddingston Community Council has submitted a neutral comment to South Lanarkshire Council.

While we wait for South Lanarkshire Council to make our full comments available via the link to the application at the bottom of this post, please find a copy at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lNIRo1DA2vJqQvf-1SGnMPH37jAJEc4R/view.

Concerns raised by residents at the meeting included overshadowing, noise, ventilation units, parking, the planning process, resident consultation, the level of detail in the application, and the long-term impact of further expansion in the village centre.

Thank you to South Lanarkshire Council for allowing additional time for comments after residents experienced issues accessing the online planning portal.

The application can be viewed and comments made here:
