One of the strengths of any community is our ability to come together, learn and have respectful conversations about complex issues.

When people come together to listen, share ideas and hear different perspectives, something powerful can happen.

New connections are made. New ideas emerge. And sometimes conversations lead to possibilities that none of us would have reached on our own.

That’s part of what community is about — creating spaces where people can come together, learn from one another and think about what we can do locally.

Are you concerned about the environment?

Do you have ideas about what we, as a community, could or should be doing locally?

Our upcoming screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing is a chance to come together, hear from scientists and experts, and think about what climate and environmental changes could mean for everyday life.

The film looks at issues including extreme weather, food security, health, the natural environment and the cost of living.

But this is also about our own community.

What matters to you?
What changes are you already noticing?
What could we be doing locally?
And what practical ideas should we be talking about together?

Planning application – former Uddingston Baptist Church site

A planning application has been registered for the er****on of a pallet storage building for a maximum temporary period of three years at the site of the former Uddingston Baptist Church, Bellshill Road, Uddingston.

Application: P/26/0935

The pallet storage already exists having been erected under a near identical application (P/23/0668), also for a maximum temporary period of three years.

Residents can view the plans and, if they wish, submit a comment, objection or statement of support through the Planning Portal.

We would encourage anyone with a view on the proposal to make sure their comments are submitted directly to the Council while the application is being considered.

UCC Micro Grants – applications wanted

Uddingston Community Council still has funding available through our Micro Grant Fund, and we would like to receive more applications.

Applications are welcome from **local groups, organisations, clubs, community projects and individuals** with an idea that could benefit people in the Uddingston area.

Funding could support a new activity, event, project or initiative that brings people together, improves the local area or provides a benefit to the wider community.

If you have an idea that could make a positive difference in Uddingston, we would be interested to hear from you.

You don’t need to know anything about The People’s Emergency Briefing before coming along.

That’s really the point of holding a community screening.

The 50-minute film brings together scientists and experts to present evidence about what is happening to our climate and natural environment, and how those changes may affect ordinary, everyday life.

Among the subjects explored are:

🍞 Food security
🏥 Health
💷 Cost of living
🌿 Our natural environment

It’s an opportunity to hear the information for yourself, alongside other people from the local community.

Main Street – digital advertising screens and communications kiosks

Four related planning applications have been submitted for two locations on Main Street, Uddingston.

The proposals are for:

• Two digital advertising screens near 143 Main Street – P/26/1001
• A digital communications kiosk near 143 Main Street – P/26/1002
• Two digital advertising screens near 23 Main Street – P/26/1003
• A digital communications kiosk near 23 Main Street – P/26/1004

The communications kiosks are the type of infrastructure commonly referred to as BT Street Hubs. You can find out more about Street Hubs here:

Bus services – could the 255 better serve local GP surgeries?

The new Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy was discussed at our August meeting.

One suggestion was to explore whether the 255 bus service could be routed in a way that provides better access to local GP surgeries.

Uddingston Community Council intends to explore the issue further and potentially raise it with First Bus.

Would a change to the route make it easier for you to reach local healthcare or other essential services?

Grow Uddingston garden open to the community

A reminder from our August meeting that the Grow Uddingston garden at Uddingston Community Centre is open for members of the public to visit.

It is another local project helping make use of community space and giving residents an opportunity to see what Grow Uddingston has been developing.

Updated FAQs from Uddingston Shinty Club’s Latest Community Consultation

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our recent community consultation and took the time to share their questions, thoughts and concerns.

We’ve listened to the feedback and updated our Frequently Asked Questions to reflect the key issues raised, including:

🐕 Access for dog walkers and informal users
🚗 Parking and traffic
📢 How we will continue to communicate and keep the community updated
