My First Prize Giving: One Boy’s Story
At my first Boys’ Brigade Prize Giving, I felt excited but also a little nervous. The hall was full of parents and families, including my own family. Seeing everyone there made the evening feel really important.
One of the first things we did was marching. We had spent weeks practising, so I wanted to do my best in front of everyone watching. Once we started marching together, I felt proud to be part of the team and happy that all our hard work had paid off.
After that, we performed a funny skit about “the ugliest person in the world.” Everyone in the audience was laughing, including the leaders. I was nervous before going on stage, but once we started acting, it became really fun and enjoyable.
Later in the evening, we played hockey games with the mums and dads joining in too. It was funny seeing the parents getting competitive and trying their hardest to win. Everyone was laughing, cheering, and having a great time together.
At the end of the night came the prize giving itself. I was already happy just to be part of the evening, so I was shocked when my name was called for Best Boy of the Year. Walking up to collect the award in front of everyone made me feel really proud, especially seeing my parents smiling and clapping for me.
By the end of the evening, I realised Prize Giving was about much more than just awards. It was about celebrating achievements, making memories, and enjoying being part of Boys’ Brigade together.
And this is only one boy’s story. There are countless others, each shaped by the friendships, lessons, and choices made along the way. Join us and see how one small decision can start a journey that changes your life.
