How do you turn four West End Girls (WEGs) into zombies? A little patience, plenty of creativity and some brilliant make-up skills! 🎨🧟‍♀️

Here’s a look behind the scenes of our WEGs Halloween session, from the first layers of face paint to the finishing touches.

A huge thank you to make-up artist Sarah Cowan for creating these wonderfully spooky looks and helping bring our Halloween ideas to life. 👏

Trying something different, encouraging one another and enjoying time together are all part of WEGs. Building friendships and confidence along the way. 💜

There was one team missing from our 1V Afternoon Tea last Sunday and we want to give them a very special thank you. 💗

SP Electricity North West were the main sponsors of the afternoon at Samlesbury Hall. Their support made it possible for us to bring even more people together than scheduled to share a table, meet someone new and enjoy a memorable afternoon as part of our A Sense of Belonging programme.

They had hoped to join us, but were instead working to support people affected by the storms that were happening last weekend.

While we were enjoying the warmth and company inside the hall, their team’s attention was where it was needed: supporting communities through difficult weather.

Without their sponsorship, this event would not have been as big as it was, or the coverage that we have gained. Every shared smile and new connection was made possible with their help.

To everyone at SP Electricity North West: thank you for supporting our communities in so many ways. You were missed on the day, and we hope these photographs show what your generosity helped create.

Some of our WEGs members can be scary at the best of times. But Blackburn, you’ve been warned… the West End Girls have turned into zombies! 🧟‍♀️🎃

Four of our WEGs underwent some frighteningly good transformations with make-up artist Sarah Cowen, before heading into town with the group for a Halloween photoshoot.

Spooky faces, zombie poses and plenty of fun with friends. Our girls certainly got into character! 👻

It;s a bit of fun at Halloween. Look out for more pictures over the next two days… if you dare! 👀

Beautiful cakes, delicate teacups and a setting full of history. 🍰☕

A special thank you to Moonira Hinglotwala for preparing the cake and accompanying treats for our head table. Her care and attention to detail helped create a beautiful centrepiece for the afternoon.

Samlesbury Hall provided a wonderful backdrop for our 1V Afternoon Tea, giving guests time to enjoy the food, take in the surroundings and linger over a conversation.

Part of our A Sense of Belonging programme, the afternoon brought people together to share a table, meet someone new and enjoy each other’s company.

Earlier this week, One Voice Blackburn was at Whalley Methodist Community Hall, where we delivered another Dementia Friends awareness session.

The session gave participants an opportunity to learn more about dementia, understand some of the challenges people living with dementia may experience, and think about the small things we can all do to make our communities more understanding and supportive.

Our Dementia Friends sessions form part of One Voice Blackburn’s wider health work, taking important awareness messages directly into communities across the area.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and to Whalley Methodist Community Hall for welcoming us. 💙

👀 Something new and rewarding is on the way…

We were delighted to welcome Martin Hartley-Smith from Spring North to the One Voice Blackburn offices this morning, where he met with our CEO Zaffer Khan (right) as we begin the journey towards an exciting new project.

Spring North do fantastic work across our communities, and we’re always pleased to work alongside an organisation that shares our commitment to improving lives and creating positive change.

This new project will be led by Spring North, with support from One Voice Blackburn, and we’re really excited about what we can achieve together.

It’s still early days, so we can’t reveal too much just yet…

Sometimes, all it takes is a seat at the same table and time to listen.

At our 1V Afternoon Tea last weekend, seating was arranged to encourage guests to meet people beyond their usual circles.

These conversations are an important part of A Sense of Belonging: creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds and generations to get to know one another.

A busy day of filming at One Voice Blackburn! 🎥

Today we’ve been recording the latest instalments of our One Voice Interviews series, with some brilliant guests joining us to share their stories, experiences and journeys.

We’ve also been introducing new young hosts to the series, giving them the opportunity to develop their interviewing, communication and presenting skills in front of the cameras.

There were a few nerves to begin with but plenty of confidence as the day went on!

The first of our new interviews will be broadcast in early November, with more being released over the coming months.

A warm welcome can make all the difference. 💗

Our 2020 Vision leadership group helped organise and facilitate the 1V Afternoon Tea, with young hosts welcoming guests, bringing people into conversations and helping everyone feel included.

They prepared beforehand, thinking carefully about how to introduce themselves, welcome people to their tables and explain the work of One Voice Blackburn.

Sunday gave them the opportunity to put those skills into practice. We are proud of the care, confidence and responsibility they brought to the afternoon.
