Hamelin Trust is an Essex based Charity, founded 40 years ago by two families raising children with learning disabilities. They wanted to provide life enriching support that was not readily available, affordable or easy to access, for families just like them. We want young people and adults with learning disabilities to lead healthy, happy and fulfilling lives. In Wickford we run a home for 5 peop
le with profound and multiple disabilities; supporting every aspect of their lives from personal care to cooking and eating, taking medication and trips into the local community. Our Rochford site ‘Gowlands’ hosts a Hydrotherapy pool that aids rehabilitation and the management of lifelong disabilities and health conditions, as well as our 9-bed residential holiday setting and our ‘Roots and Shoots’ horticultural training project which aims to provide life skills and the promotion of positive mental and physical wellbeing. The Trust’s ‘Community Support’ services are based in Billericay but provide people with life skills training and access to fun activities across Mid and South Essex. We also deliver a befriending and mentoring scheme across Chelmsford and Braintree districts, matching people with learning disabilities and autism with people who share their passions or can teach them skills.
