Busy week for Biggar Community Fire Station at the Gala! 🚒

Firstly, congratulations to Gala Queen Grace — we hope she had a fantastic week and enjoyed every moment of the celebrations.

On Tuesday, our crew took part in the Slippy Slope, which was great fun and enjoyed by all. Then on Saturday, we were at the Showfield, giving visitors the opportunity to have a look around the fire appliance, meet the crew, and ask any questions about the fire service and the work we do in the community.

Thank you to everyone who came along to say hello and support the Gala week events. We always enjoy getting out into the community and meeting local residents. 🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

A bit of a photo dump from the past few weeks! 📸🚒

First up was Tinto Village Day – blessed with fantastic weather and a great turnout, making for a brilliant day in the community.

We then moved on to drill night, focusing on water awareness training, followed by another Wednesday drill night where the Training Department delivered SWAH training at the station.

Most recently, crews completed familiarisation training on our new air bags before they are officially placed onto the pump. The session was delivered by Watch Commander Leishman and Crew Commander Marshall, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and confidence with the new equipment.

A busy few weeks of community engagement, training, and development – keeping skills sharp and equipment knowledge up to date. 🚒💪

Drill night at the station 🚒

Wednesdays training took us down to the local boating pond, where crews practiced drafting water from an open source. It’s a great way to sharpen skills and prepare for situations where hydrants aren’t available.

We also focused on the different problems that can arise—like maintaining prime, avoiding blockages, and dealing with changing water levels—and how important it is to keep a close eye on the pump at all times.

Plenty of teamwork, problem-solving, and hands-on experience—another productive night keeping skills sharp and ready for anything 💪. If you see us out in the public feel free to stop for a chat and we will answer any questions you may have.

🚒 Drill Night at Biggar Fire Station 🚒

Tonight at Biggar Fire Station was all about ladder drills and combination drills as we continue preparing for a busy year ahead.

With three of our trainees heading up for their phases later this year, tonight’s training focused on sharpening core skills, teamwork, and safe, effective working at height. Ladder work is a fundamental part of the job, and combination drills help bring everything together — communication, coordination, and confidence under pressure.
