Biggar Cornets Club

Biggar Cornets Club A page to keep people up to date with events and announcements of Biggar Cornets Club. This was carried out by Mr Robert Douglas.

In 1976 to celebrate 525 years of the forming of the Burgh of Biggar it was decided by the local Gala Committee that a Warden Of The Burgh was to be selected and a Riding Of The Marches be carried out around the boundaries of Biggar. Through much persuasion from Gala Committee member Tom O'Donnell and his wife Helen it was decided that this become an annual event to start the Gala Week celebration

s and a Cornet would be selected every year thereafter. On this occasion, Biggaronian Robin Galbraith was selected and it was decided that he should have a year to learn the role before being sashed as Cornet in 1977.

Gala Day 2026! Let’s go!

This is the busiest day of the week for our committee, please be respectful and patient with us! Any additional information will be added to our page throughout the day.

If any remaining cars could be cleared from Corn Exchange to Coffee Spot as soon as possible to allow the children taking part to be as safe as possible. Thank you!

If there are any remaining cars parked on station road, particularly between Armac Vets and Celebrity Hair Salon could they please be moved, everybodies favourite traffic lights have made a very tight turn for our tractors! 😬

If you are not watching the procession and out and about please be aware that there are rolling road closures as well as children walking on the road and horses, please take care!

Thank you to everybody within our community for their assistance in keeping everybody safe!

LANIMERS 🐎

Our lead principals joined our neighbours in Lanark for the Lanimers celebrations yesterday and all had a great time despite the difficult conditions! 🌧️

As always, thank you to our friends in Lanark Lord Cornets Club for the hospitality shown, not just to ours but all visiting principals. πŸ‘

Congratulations to Lord Cornet Karl Stewart and his supporters from all of us at Biggar Cornets Club! All the best for your year in office.

BIGGAR RIDEOUT πŸ”΅βšͺοΈπŸ”΅βšͺοΈπŸ”΅βšͺ️

Now that the dust has settled, and I've survived the slippy slope. I'd like to thank everyone for the love and support on Sunday.

Special thanks to everyone in Biggar Cornets Club and Edinburgh & Lasswade Riding Centre. 🐎

The feeling I had coming down the high street at 6pm with the standard will live with me for ever, and the response after my final speech at war memorial (not gonna lie I nearly cried).

I love this big town.

⚠️ Importing information ⚠️

During Biggar Gala Week, there are many events and activities taking place throughout the town. However, only those events listed within our Biggar Gala Week Programme or shared directly via the Biggar Gala Week page are official Gala Week events which are organised and run by our hardworking committee members.

We do not organise, manage or receive any profit from any other events which take place during Gala Week.

Our mission has always been and will always be to continue a free, family friendly Gala Week for the whole community, and all funds raised through our official events go towards supporting and sustaining our towns tradition.

Thank you.
