Brilliant idea!
Attention teachers, students and parents!
Running a Freegle event at school is a great way to demonstrate real-life waste prevention and helps everyone navigate the cost of living crisis.
As the school year starts up again, we thought we’d share this free resource for anyone involved with a school. You may not have time right now, but have a read of the guide and get planning so you can host a Free Reuse event in the coming year.
Why run a School Freegle event?
Best of all it involves young people, but also encourages sharing and kindness, helps anyone struggling with the cost-of-living-crisis, it's a nice way to meet others in the school community and of course it is an easy and fun way to pass on useful things that might otherwise lie idle or end up prematurely in the bin!

“Our City Your World” the brilliant Brighton and Hove Climate Change, Sustainability and Environmental Education Programme, have published this ‘How To’ guide on how to run a successful Freegle Bring & Take event put together by the students and staff at
Cardinal Newman Catholic School – so you too can do this.
Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Hove held their first Freegle event with the help of our local Freegle volunteers down in Brighton.

"Cardinal Newman School’s eco ambassadors ran a successful Freegle event at school on a Saturday in March 2023 supported by Cottesmore Primary School.
Many hundreds of students, parents, neighbours and school staff were involved.
Together they collected 315kg of donated goods:
• 160kg were taken by customers on the same day
• 155kg were donated to the Freegle Free Shop in Brighton’s Open Market post-event.
This represents collective savings of £157 and around 315kg of C02 emissions."
Popular donations were school uniforms, children’s and teen clothing, sports equipment, games and toys, baby items, books, CDs and DVDs, toiletries and make-up (lots of it brand new!) and stationery along with kitchen and other useful household items! So, just like a good ol’ jumble sale but without the price tags.
