The longest day of the year is nearly here ☀️

As Summer begins, we’re thinking about hope - the small and big things that keep us going.

For some, summer brings lighter days, warmer meals, and time together. For others, it can still be a challenging season.
At Bicester Foodbank, we see every day how hope can come in many forms: a helping hand, a kind conversation, a food parcel, or knowing support is there when it's needed most.

What are you hopeful for this summer?

Refugee Week (15–21 June 2026) is celebrating the theme of Courage.
Courage isn’t always loud or bold. It can be found in simple acts: opening your door to a neighbour, trying new food, reading a book, or watching a film that changes your view of the world. It can be speaking up, asking for help, sharing your story — or simply having the courage to be yourself.

Refugee Week is about community, positivity and solidarity. In a time when it can feel like increasing division in society, it’s a valuable moment to highlight that we support everyone in our community with dignity and compassion.

As a food bank, we support people in our local community with compassion and dignity. Our volunteers welcome and provide practical support to everyone referred to us, whatever their background or circumstance, because we believe no one in the UK should face hunger or hardship 💚

When people think of disability, they often picture visible physical impairments. Many people live with disabilities that cannot be seen, including chronic pain, autism, epilepsy, mental health conditions, hearing loss, and long-term illnesses.

The impact of disability is felt every day.

Disability benefits can help people meet essential costs, maintain independence, participate in their communities and live with dignity.

We know many people who come to us for support are disabled, and you may be feeling uncertain or worried following recent government announcements about changes to disability benefits.

We want to reassure you that we are still here for you 💚

If you’re looking for clear, accessible information, Scope has a helpful guide explaining the proposed changes and what they may mean:

You are not alone, and support is available.

⚽ The World Cup 2026 is the one time your entire community suddenly becomes a panel of football experts overnight!

The quiet guy in accounts is predicting scorelines. The receptionist has a "guaranteed" winner. Someone's already explaining why their sweepstake team is a dark horse. And there's always that one person who somehow pulls the favourites out of the hat.

A company sweepstake isn't just about winning bragging rights (or the prize money) it's about bringing everyone together, sparking conversations, and creating a bit of friendly competition across the workplace.

We're counting down to the World Cup and the sweepstake is already up and running. As always, a percentage of the takings will be going to our chosen charity in Bicester, our lovely neighbors at the Bicester Foodbank

Now all that's left to find out is who'll become the office football oracle… and who'll spend the next month pretending they always believed in their team!!

Which team do you think will lift the trophy in 2026? Predictions, please, in the comments! 👇

June is Pride Month, an important opportunity to highlight the disproportionate levels of food insecurity experienced by many communities, including LGBTQIA+ people.

Research from 2024 found that 1 in 3 people in the LGBTQIA+ community faced hunger and hardship, compared with 15% of people who are heterosexual.

Pride is about visibility, equality, inclusion, and community. We are proud to be part of a network that welcomes and supports everyone.

This Pride Month, we stand with LGBTQIA+ communities and remain committed to building a future where everyone can live with dignity and thrive, free from hunger and hardship, regardless of who they are.

Dear Supporters,

The foodbank has already provided a significant number of emergency food parcels this year, and our stocks of some essential items are now running low.

To ensure we can continue supporting local people and families facing crisis situations, we urgently need your help to replenish the following items:

* Tinned meat
* Tinned vegetables
* Long-life milk
* Small jars of coffee
* Shampoo and conditioner
* Shower gel
* Roll on deodorant

Every donation, no matter how small, helps us provide vital support to people in our community when they need it most.

Thank you for your continued kindness and generosity.

Donations can be dropped off at our usual collection points or directly at the foodbank during opening hours.

Download the app BankTheFood which we regularly update with our urgently needed items and where to drop off donations 💚

Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the invaluable contribution of volunteers across our communities. We are proud to be celebrating the diversity of volunteers and volunteering, and the positive impact you make.

A huge shout-out to all the volunteers supporting food banks up and down the country! Your dedication, compassion, and generosity make a real difference every day. You give your time, energy, and skills to support our organisation and the people we serve.

Without you, we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
Thank you to each and every one of you for all that you do.

While Volunteers’ Week may be ending, our appreciation for you continues throughout the year. We look forward to continuing to recognise and celebrate your contributions.
