We all had a brilliant time in Bideford today as Addicts to Athletes members took on the Bideford Duathlon organised by Bideford Bridge Rotary Club! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Connor and Mike entered their β€˜Addicts to Athletes’ relay team, with Connor as the runner and Mike as the cyclist πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Ewan, Ash and Alex had even more work to do, as their individual entries meant they’d have to run 5km, cycle 25km, and then run another final 5km to finish! 🀩

After the first 5km, Connor finished the run in second place, only 10 seconds behind the relay team in front. A quick high-five in transition and Mike was off, speeding his way along the course and overtaking the other relay team that was in front. A fantastic cycle leg, and another quick transition from Mike meant Connor just had to hold his pace to claim the team trophy πŸ†

The final run in the heat was tough, but he held his position and managed to finish with a sub-19 5km! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Huge well done to Mike and Connor for claiming the first ever Addicts to Athletes Team Trophy πŸ’ͺ πŸ†

Ewan, Ash, and Alex all did brilliantly too, taking on each leg individually with no rest in-between! They faced two separate 5km’s in the heat and a hilly bike course! Their strategy was completely different to a relay team, having to think more about fuelling and pacing! πŸ™Œ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

It was great to see other club members/volunteers and family coming down to support us too, so a big thanks to them as well as the team at the Rotary Club for putting on such a great event! πŸ™

Today we organised two fishing trips for two groups of 5! 🎣 Setting off from Appledore, the anchor was soon down and the lines were in the water. It didn’t take long for the first bite, as Adam caught a smoothhound after just a couple of minutes in the water.

Shortly after, Andy caught a dogfish, and then later on also caught a smoothhound!

In the second trip, more smoothhounds were caught, with Don, Mike, and Rob all landing a catch! 🐟

The weather was perfect and it was a great couple of hours in the water, taking in the lovely sights of Appledore, Instow and Crow Point!

Thanks to Colin Eastman from Lundy Charters for a great couple of trips πŸ™

Here’s the A2A weekly round up:

On Monday afternoon Mike led another 1:1 cycling session out to Saunton πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

Then on Saturday Connor and Jane completed the Barnstaple parkrun πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ After this Connor met a new club member starting her running journey. On her first ever run she completed a total distance of 3km with a mixture of running and walking! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Huge well done to her for her efforts! πŸ’ͺ

Finally on Sunday group members met up with Simon from Active Devon to film some content for an upcoming piece they are doing πŸŽ₯ πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

Next week there will be less sessions on offer, as Connor is meeting a potential volunteer next Thursday. Next Saturday we have organised a fishing trip for club members, and on Sunday both team and club members are participating in the Bideford Duathlon, so no group cycle session that day!

Another busy week at A2A! πŸ™Œ This week we delivered a number of different sessions and across three different sports πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Midweek Mike led two 1:1 sessions, taking on more difficult road cycling routes with decent elevation gain πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

The Bideford running group set off on Wednesday evening πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

On Thursday Connor delivered a swim session for a new club member 🏊 πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ

Then on Saturday team members completed the Barnstaple parkrun πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Finally earlier today Ash delivered a group cycling session starting in Bideford πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

In two weeks time both team members and club members will be taking on the Bideford Duathlon! Best of luck to them in their training and on race day πŸ™Œ

A big thank you to all of our activity leaders! πŸ™ Every one of our team members work in other roles for their day jobs, but each still find the time to spend their evenings and weekends supporting others on their recovery journeys.

Here’s a photo from cycling leader Mike taking a group out last Sunday, after already working a full-time week in another role πŸ™Œ

This week Mike has already led two 1:1s after work, helping a club member build fitness and speed for his upcoming Bideford Duathlon πŸ’ͺ
