A group from our The Hub at Parkhead day centre in Ashington were absolutely thrilled when they were given the opportunity to make their stage debut at the annual Headway festival of performance and creativity.

Designed for and by people with learning disabilities, the festival gave our eight-strong group the chance to see their hard work and growing confidence come together as they performed a collection of popular folk songs in public for the first time.

Cheered on by friends, family, fellow performers and other festival-goers their smiles said it all as they were swept up in the joy of the music and the energy of the audience.

Support Worker, Simon, joined the group on stage and said the excitement was tangible.

“From the kernel of an idea through dedicated practice sessions to taking the stage has only been a few months,” said Simon. “They were absolutely fantastic. We’re all so proud of them.”

And this performance may just be the start of their musical journey as they prepare to rehearse a new collection of songs for a concert at their Christmas fair. Keep watching this space! 🎉
