A red wildfire risk warning has been issued in our district for tomorrow and Thursday, meaning there is an exceptionally high risk of fires starting and spreading rapidly.

Please help protect our open spaces:

• skip the barbecue, fire pit and any other open flame wherever you are, whether that's on the beach, in a park, in the countryside, at home or on a campsite. It only takes a single spark to start a fire.

BBQs are not permitted on any of our beaches, and with conditions as dry as they are, we all need to play our part in reducing the risk of fires. A little common sense goes a long way, and prevention is always better than cure.

• take litter home, especially glass bottles which can increase fire risk

• report any signs of fire immediately by calling 999 - tell the fire service the location, size, and any relevant information including the address, and if you are able the What3Words location - https://what3words.com/

With dry conditions continuing, even a small spark could lead to a serious wildfire, as we have seen recently in this country.

🔥 NO FIRES 🔥

Unfortunately, due to the continued heat and prolonged lack of rain, all fires are now prohibited at Furzefield Scout Campsite ⚜️

This decision has not been made lightly. We understand that many of our hirers choose Furzefield specifically because they can enjoy traditional campfires. However, the ground is now extremely dry, and we have already seen a number of fires caused by the dry conditions in recent weeks.

With the risk of fire spreading to the surrounding woodland and neighbouring land, we must put the safety of our hirers, volunteers and local community first.

This means no fires anywhere on site until further notice.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while these conditions continue. ⚜️

Our next work weekend is 15th + 16th August from around 9am 📅

We can't wait to show you all what we've been up to!

We will hopefully have a photographer on site from one of our large donators, so we'd love to show the community we have here!

If you can spare an hour or two (or even the whole day!), we'd love to see you. Every helping hand makes a huge difference as we continue improving and maintaining our campsite for the hundreds of young people who use it each year.
