Meet our team!

Wadars operates with a fairly small team of staff, supported by more than 100 amazing volunteers, and over the coming weeks we thought you might like to ‘meet’ some of the people who carry out our work with companion animals and wildlife.

Matt, pictured here with a rescued buzzard, is one of our animal rescue officers, alongside his work as our volunteer coordinator.

Lifelong animal lover Matt joined Wadars in January 2023 and has been working in animal care for over a decade. After graduating with a Bachelors in Animal Management. He has worked in keeper & rescue roles, even spending time out in Africa. Matt has always had a particular love for birds & birds of prey; when not in the cinema, reading or gaming he can be found twitching, looking for his favourite species.

Matt says the favourite part of his role, besides telling people random bird facts, is being able to help others, whether the concern is large or small. “I enjoy helping people, giving them a bit more understanding about the animals we must share our lives with; letting them see the wander in our own back yards. It is also very fulfilling being able to help animals in their time of need, giving them empathy & respect in life, injury, and care & even more so at the end of their lives.”

Have you seen this cat? She has been missing from her home in Bodiam Avenue, Goring since the 5th of October. The cat is microchipped. Please check your sheds, garages, and any other outbuildings where they could have been shut in, and call Tracy on 07708 876428 if you have any information about her whereabouts. Beautiful Bella has been in our care for 6 months and, although she is absolutely loving being spoiled by her amazing foster carers, she deserves a home to call her own in her twilight years.

Bella adores attention and will happily soak up as much fuss as she can get. If she feels she hasn’t quite had enough, she’ll politely tap your arm to ask for more!

Bella needs a little extra TLC as she continues to age and is looking for a calm home without other pets. Could you be that calm, patient person Bella is looking for?

🐾 Animal Welfare Week🐾

Today, we’re looking at the final of the five freedoms, set by law to help protect the welfare of animals; the freedom from distress by having access to safe shelter.

Cuddly man Winston knows just how important a safe home is.

Believed to have been abandoned after a tenant moved out of a local property, Winston was reported to Wadars by multiple concerned members of the public when he was found crying outside the property. We took steps to try to locate his owner, but sadly, we were unsuccessful.

Thankfully, Winston was given a second chance and soon found his forever home.
His new family tells us he settled in straight away, exploring the house, enjoying his food, sleeping with them and making sure there’s absolutely no such thing as personal space! He’s also discovered his evening zoomies and is very vocal about what he wants.

Winston is now safe, loved and exactly where he belongs.

🐾 Animal Welfare Week🐾

Today, we’re looking at another of the five freedoms, set by law to help protect the welfare of animals; the freedom from pain, injury and disease.

One important way we can protect our pets is by ensuring their nails are kept at an appropriate length so the animal can walk pain free.

These are a few tips you can use to help keep nails short:

1. Use animal nail clippers for best results.
2. Gradually get your animal used to having their paws handled.
3. Reward your pet with treats to create a positive experience.
4. Avoid cutting into the pink area to prevent bleeding.
5. Consult your vet or groomer if you're unsure or your pet resists.

🐾 Animal Welfare Week🐾

Today, we’re looking at another of the five freedoms, set by law to help protect the welfare of animals; the freedom to express natural behaviours.

Food enrichment can be a great way to keep your animal mentally stimulated and encourage natural foraging behaviours.

You could try puzzle feeders like in the images below or you could make your own by hiding dry food in an empty egg box covered with scrunched-up newspaper.
Remember, enrichment should be fun, safe and rewarding, not frustrating. Give your animal time to work things out and adjust the difficulty to suit them.
