Ooh, Damsons!

Don't get in a stew - we've got damsons for you! Just off the trees, one of our most eagerly awaited crops has hit the shop...but hurry, at only £2.50 for a 1kg glut bag, these always go fast. (P. S We have plums too!)

What did the Romans ever do for us?
Brought apple trees for one 😁

Orchards have been used to grow food for thousands of years! They were brought over by the Romans, with the most common species in the UK being apple cultivars. Not only are orchards useful to us, but to wildlife too. They are a brilliant source of food for our pollinators! 💚🍏

Our Abundance Apple team are busy getting apples out into the community this morning!
First stop the Collective Sharehouse at Clements Hall.
Don't those Discovery apples look great!
(Volunteers pick apples from gardens across York and get them to people who appreciate fresh local fruit).

Lovely fresh apples and a few pears going out this week. All organically grown without pesticides (Mrs ladybird approves! 🐞)
Today we delivered to Hoping York Street Kitchen at Kings Manor, and tomorrow hopefully Red Tower York and Acomb Food bank and Gateway cafe.
🍎Lots of requests coming in wanting help picking apples this week, so if you are free one morning or after work for an hour, you could volunteer to help us pick apples.

🌳 Our first pick of the year!

A big thank you to Priory Medical Group for again letting us pick from the lovely plum trees in their car park. 5 of us filled more than 20 tubs yesterday, and they’ve gone straight out to a fab community project nearby. Our new extra-long extending handle meant we could reach the higher branches this year too!

If you know of a plum tree going to waste, let us know! If there are purple splodges on the pavements, that can be a good clue to look up!

➡️ We are looking for a temporary paid coordinator for Abundance York, which involves organising picks of local trees, delivering fruit around the city, and supporting community involvement in this fun and rewarding project.
