Abundance organises volunteers to harvest unpicked fruit across York. Volunteers pick, deliver and run events like juicing. Join us - send a message!

(A project from Edible York ) We’ll be keeping fruit trees across the City healthy, looking after unloved fruit trees, and helping people enjoy the fruit trees in their gardens. At harvest we'll collect the free, fresh fruit and spread it across York. We’ll be planting, cycling, picking, pickling, juicing, sharing, chutneying, and most of all, eating. But we need YOU to help us do it!

Apple Day at Homestead Park today. (Postponed from last weekend due to the storm).
Crafts, music and some juicing with Marion.
Looks like a lovely day, especially for kids.

🍎🍏We are all set for today's Big Community Apple Day, at the Dormouse Orchard.🍏🍎
BBC weather says: "Light rain and a moderate breeze". 7°C is cool though, so do dress up warm and bring a waterproof.
Depending on the numbers and wind between 3-4pm , we might pack up early and retreat to enjoy a hot chocolate at the pub!

Lots of interesting observations on this year's weird weather impacts on our apple trees in the UK.
Here in York we definitely saw fruit drop due to water stress (late July, not the normal 'June Drop').
And one they don't mention here - more codling moth damage than a normal year, especially early-mid season apples.
What are your thoughts?

🤗Thanks to 2 householders today, in Heworth and Acomb, we were very busy picking Bramleys and Conference pears!

Come on down on Saturday and help us turn ugly apples into the freshest apple juice around.
Join in and turn the handle! Great for kids or adults :-)

We are super pleased to be welcoming yorkneighbours to take over the cafe swap tomorrow!
A local charity who support over 65s to keep their independence, enjoy social connections, and feel part of a community.
They do this through local residents volunteering to help with one-off tasks and errands, regular check-in and chat phone calls, and social outings.
Do pop and say hi, buy a cake and find out how you could be involved with their local work.
